ISSP Riga Residency is open for applications!

Exciting news! Applications are now open for the ISSP Riga Residency 2025 (May–December)!

ISSP Riga Residency provides an opportunity for concentrated work on personal research or photography/art projects informed by interaction with Riga and its residents or much-needed time to rethink and complete ongoing work. We welcome photographers and artists interested in researching and exploring the local social and cultural context and connecting to the ISSP platform of activities and other contemporary art and culture actors in Latvia.

What we offer:

  • free of charge stay in a beautiful centrally-located residency apartment in Riga,
  • compensation of travel costs up to 200 eur,
  • access to the ISSP local network and introduction to Riga's art and contemporary culture scene,
  • support in your research and project implementation,
  • regular contact with a friendly local coordinator,
  • a possibility to use the library, printer, and extra equipment at the ISSP premises,
  • a possibility to meet with the local community at an artist talk, to organise a pop-up exhibition, a small workshop, or other events as mutually agreed.
  • an official invitation letter that you can use to apply for extra funding.

In 2025, the residency programme will be run in collaboration with two Latvian contemporary culture organisations - kuš! komikss and TUR telpa. The residency apartment will be shared with 2-3 other visual artists.

ISSP Meistarklases noslēguma pasākums Cēsīs

Šo sestdien, 11. jūnijā, plkst. 17.00 aicinām uz ISSP Starptautiskās meistarklases noslēguma prezentāciju Ruckas mākslas rezidenču centrā Cēsīs! 

20 mākslinieki no vairakām pasaules valstīm kopš 2019. gada strādāja pie ilgtermiņa fotogrāfijas projektiem starptautisko mentoru Džeisona Fulforda un Lizas Barnardas vadībā. Programmas noslēdzošājā darbnīcā Cēsīs, dalībnieki apkopos padarīto un sestdienas noslēguma pasākumā prezentēs mini-izstādi, video darbus un performances.

Summer School of Socially Engaged Art 2022

We invite applications to the ISSP Summer School of Socially Engaged Art, in Cēsis from 23 - 30 July 2022! 

The summer school will bring together artists and practitioners whose work deals with socio-political and human rights issues to inspire, share tools and practices, and develop a network of individuals, communities and organisations who work at the intersection between art and social activism in Latvia and the neighbouring region. Application deadline: 12 June!

Paulius Petraitis - Virsmas/ Surfaces

No 20. maija līdz 3. jūlijam Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles 2022 ietvaros ISSP Galerijā būs skatāma lietuviešu mākslinieka Pauļa Petraiša  izstāde “Virsmas”. Savā pirmajā personālizstādē Latvijā mākslinieks pievēršas fotogrāfijas analogās un digitālās materialitātes izziņai. Atklāšanas diena – 19. maijs plkst. 18.00. Laipni aicināti!

From May 20 to July 3, within the framework of the Riga Photography Biennial 2022, the ISSP Gallery is showing Lithuanian artist Paulius Petraiti's exhibition Surfaces. In his first solo exhibition in Latvia, Petraitis focuses on the study of analog and digital materiality in photography. Opening day –  May 19 at 18.00. Welcome!

Diskusija "Atmiņas traucējumi, attēls kā pieredzes starpnieks"

Ceturtdien, 5. maijā, plkst. 18.30 aicinām uz diskusiju par attēla ietekmi uz cilvēka uztveri mūsdienās! Diskusija norisināsies ISSP Galerijas izglītības programmas ietvaros, reflektējot Kristīnes Krauzes-Sluckas izstādes “Izšķirtspējas streiks” saturu.

Diskusijā piedalīsies māksliniece Kristīne Krauze-Slucka, bibliogrāfe un atklātņu kolekcijas glabātāja Līga Goldberga un filosofs Toms Babincevs, to vadīs rakstniece Ieva Melgalve.

Riga Last Thursdays – Kristīne Krauze-Slucka, Izšķirtspējas streiks

April 23rd is the International World Book and Copyright Day! 

To this occasion, we are honouring the authors and book publishers and encouraging reading in all its forms!  The ISSP store offers a wide range of photography books by more than 100 Latvian and international authors and publishers.

Mākslas terapijas grupas "Creatively feeling"

Aicinām cilvēkus, kas savā dzīvē saskarušies ar depresijas un trauksmes simptomiem, pieteikties dalībai bezmaksas mākslas terapijas grupās! Grupās kā galvenā terapeitiskā metode tiks izmantotas fotogrāfijas un kolāžas tehnikas. Iepriekšēja pieredze un prasmes vizuālajā mākslā nav nepieciešamas. 

Grupas norisināsies no 1. maija līdz 20. jūnijam Rīgā un tās vadīs pieredzējuši mākslas terapiete no Ņujorkas Julia Volonts. 

NB! 10.03. Pieaugušo grupas jau ir pilnas; pieteikumus dalībai pusaudžu grupā pieņemsim līdz 23. aprīlim! 

Parallel - European Photo Based Platform

We are very excited to be a part of new European platform - PARALLEL, that brings together 18 European arts organisations, emerging artists and curators to promote a new quality standard for contemporary photography - the first of its kind co-funded by the European Platforms of Creative Europe.
