No 12. maija līdz 13. jūlijam ISSP Galerijā ir skatāma Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles – NEXT 2023 apbalvojuma “Meklējam jauno fotogrāfijā!” laureātes, lietuviešu mākslinieces Ievas Baltadonītes izstāde “Izrautie”. Atklāšana notiks 11. maijā plkst. 18.00, bet plkst. 19.00 sekos piecu apbalvojumam pieteikto fotogrāfu darbu prezentācijas.
Balva „Meklējam jauno fotogrāfijā!” ir Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles dibināts apbalvojums, kas kopš 2016. gada tiek pasniegts katru otro gadu biennāles programmas NEXT ietvaros. Balvas mērķis ir atklāt un novērtēt jaunos māksliniekus, kuri savos darbos demonstrē attēla spēku, piedāvā oriģinālu, laikmetam atbilstošu skatījumu un konceptuālu dziļumu.
Konkurss dalībai 2023. gada biennāles programmā norisinājās pagājušā gada oktobrī. Starptautiska žūrija galveno balvu – iespēju rīkot personālizstādi ISSP Galerijā – piešķīra lietuviešu māksliniecei Ievai Baltadonītei (Ieva Baltaduonytė) par darbu sēriju “Izrautie”.
Nominējot galvenās balvas ieguvēju, žūrija skaidro: “Ar balvai pieteikto darbu “Izrautie” Ieva Baltadonīte pārdomāti iesaistās sarežģītajās Krievijas iebrukuma Ukrainā norisēs. Strādājot ar ukraiņu bēglēm Lietuvā un izzinošā veidā izmantojot humānistisku attēlojuma pieeju, viņa izgaismo piespiedu pārvietošanas fotogrāfiski netveramo traumatisko pieredzi un ar karu saistīto posttraumatiskā stresa sindromu (PTSS). Šis darbs ir atmiņā spilgti paliekošs atgādinājums par plašo empātijas nozīmīgumu krīzes laikā.” Izstādes kuratore – Inga Brūvere.
Ieva Baltadonīte (1988) savos darbos izmanto fotogrāfiju un video. Viņa pievēršas tēmām un jautājumiem, kas saistīti ar migrācijas kultūru, darbu pamatā izmantojot personīgo pārcelšanās pieredzi. Viņa atklāj personiskos un kolektīvos naratīvus, kur trauma, atmiņa un identitāte veicina dziļāku iesaistīšanos starpkultūru dialogā. Izmantojot fotogrāfiju gan personiskai izpausmei, gan kritiskam dialogam ar mūsdienu sabiedrību, Baltadonīte aicina skatītāju iesaistīties sabiedriskās debatēs, izvirzot priekšplānā cilvēcisko pieredzi un atklājot to, kas citādi tiek apslēpts vai ignorēts. Viņas rūpīgi veidotajos projektos tiek apvienota politika un estētika, aicinot skatītāju uz sarunu. Pašlaik māksliniece dzīvo Lietuvā, kur pavisam nesen atgriezās pēc septiņpadsmit Īrijā pavadītiem gadiem, kur absolvējusi Dublinas Tehnoloģiju institūta Fotogrāfijas bakalaura programmu.
Pēc izstādes “Izrautie” atklāšanas, plkst. 19.00 ISSP Galerijā notiks arī piecu apbalvojumam pieteikto fotogrāfu darbu prezentācijas. Kopā ar laureātes prezentāciju būs iespēja iepazīt arī latviešu mākslinieču Kristīnes Krauzes-Sluckas un Līgas Stibes, igauņu māklsinieces Hedi Jānso (Hedi Jaansoo), un lietuviešu mākslinieces Ievas Maslinskaites (Ieva Maslinskaitė) darbus.
Balvas „Meklējam jauno fotogrāfijā!” žūrijā strādāja festivāla „BZH Photo” dibinātāja un pasākuma „Photo Days” Parīzē koordinatore Kamila Gahate (Camille Gajate, FR), mākslas kritiķis, vēsturnieks un kurators Adams Mazurs (Adam Mazur, PL), Igaunijas Mākslas akadēmijas Fotogrāfijas nodaļas profesore un māksliniece Marge Monko (Marge Monko, EE), mākslinieks un kurators Pauļus Petraitis (Paulius Petraitis, LT) un māksliniece un pedagoģe Ieva Epnere (LV).

From May 12 to July 13, the ISSP Gallery is hosting Uprooted, an exhibition of the Riga Photography Biennial - NEXT 2023 award "Seeking the Latest in Photography!" winner, Lithuanian artist Ieva Baltaduonytė. The opening will take place on May 11 at 18:00, followed by presentations of works by the five photographers shortlisted for the award at 19:00.
The award for young Baltic artists “Seeking the Latest in Photography!” is presented as part of the RPB – NEXT program every other year since 2016. Its goal is to discover and appraise the creative efforts of young artists who demonstrate the power of the image in their works, offering an original point of view and conceptual depth reflecting our current times.
The call for entries for the 2023 biennial took place last October. The international jury awarded the main prize - the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the ISSP Gallery - to Lithuanian artist Ieva Baltaduonytė for her series Uprooted.
The jury states: “In the ongoing photographic work Uprooted (2022), the artist thoughtfully engages with complex ripple-effects of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Working with Ukrainian female refugees in Lithuania and using a humanistic style of photography in an exploratory way, she brings to light the unphotographable trauma of forced displacement and war-related PTSD. It results in a memorable reminder of the universal importance of empathy in a time of crisis.” Curator – Inga Brūvere.
Ieva Baltaduonytė (1988) uses photography and video in her work. She focuses on themes and issues related to the culture of migration, using her personal experience of displacement as the basis for her work. She reveals personal and collective narratives where trauma, memory and identity foster a deeper engagement in an intercultural dialogue. Using photography for both personal expression and critical dialogue with contemporary society, Baltaduonytė invites the viewer to engage in a public debate, foregrounding the human experience and revealing what is otherwise hidden or ignored. Her carefully crafted projects combine politics and aesthetics, inviting the viewer into a dialogical relationship. She is currently based in Lithuania, where she recently returned after seventeen years in Ireland, where she graduated from the Dublin Institute of Technology with a BA in Photography.
After the opening of the exhibition, at 19:00, the ISSP Gallery will host a presentation of the work of the five photographers shortlisted for the award. Together with the presentation of Ieva Baltaduonytė’s work, there will also be an opportunity to get to know the work of Kristīne Krauze-Slucka (LV), Līga Stibe (LV), Hedi Jaansoo (EE), and Ieva Maslinskaitė (LT).
The jury of the Award "Seeking the Latest in Photography!" included the founder of the “BZH Photo” festival and coordinator of the “Photo Days” event in Paris Camille Gajate (FR), art critic, historian and curator Adam Mazur (PL), artist, professor and Head of the Photography Department at the Estonian Academy of Arts Marge Monko (EE), artist and curator Paulius Petraitis (LT) and artist and teacher Ieva Epnere (LV).

Ielūdzam uz kino vakaru 23. jūlijā plkst. 19.00 ISSP telpās kontekstā ar ISSP Galerijā skatāmo izstādi “Mūsdienu fotogrāfijas vēstures II” (autori: Annemarija Gulbe un Konstantīns Žukovs)! Izstādē māksliniece Annemarija Gulbe pētījusi fotogrāfa, operatora un režisora Ulda Brauna mantojumu – fotogrāfijā, kā arī viņa vienīgajā spēlfilmā “Motociklu vasara” (1975), veidojot savu refleksiju par to un aicinot atskatīties atpakaļskata spogulī.
Valmieras vasaras teātra festivāla nedēļā laikā no 31. jūlija līdz 4. augustam Valmieras pilsētas iedzīvotājiem un viesiem būs iespēja aplūkot ISSP veidoto vides objektu “Melnais kubs - Camera Obscura”. ISSP Galerijā 4. jūlijā plkst. 18.00 Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles 2024 ietvaros tiks atklāta otrā daļa divu izstāžu ciklam “Mūsdienu fotogrāfijas vēstures”, kurā atspoguļotas vairāku mākslinieku versijas un interpretācijas par vietējās fotogrāfijas vēstures rakstīšanas procesiem. Izstādē piedalās mākslinieki Annemarija Gulbe un Konstantīns Žukovs, un tā būs skatāma no 5. jūlija līdz 15. augustam.
