Artist talk: Elizabeth Glauser, Martyna Nitkowska, Asuka Okajima

Wednesday, March 22, at 18:30 we invite you to an artist talk by our artists-in-residence Elizabeth Glauser and Martyna Nitkowska, and kuš! artist-in-residence Asuka Okajima! They will speak about their work and present the projects they are working on during their stay in Riga.
Elizabeth Glauser is a Swedish photographer and visual anthropologist based in Berlin. Her documentary-based work focuses on people and their relationships to their inner and outer worlds, always inspired by a sense of curiosity and play. In her previous projects, she has been exploring subjects of death and bureaucracy. During her residency in March, Elizabeth is walking around Rīga’s cemeteries and experimenting with Polaroid film. www.elizabethglauser.com
Martyna Nitkowska is a Polish photography artist with a background in film. In her practice, she likes to reconstruct the meanings of images and texts, giving them a completely new form. Lately, she has been engaged in a number of community and activist projects. She will talk about her previous work - both personal and collective - and about the “Amber project” that she started during her residency in Riga. www.martynanitkowska.myportfolio.com
Asuka Okajima is a comic artist/illustrator from Japan, currently based in Leipzig. He is interested in drawing as a waking dream and the way cities and people exist. In the presentation, he will talk about his past and future work while incorporating a perspective on urban culture. www.asukaokajima.com

Great News! Together with three other European photography centres, we have launched a new two-year EU-funded cooperation project: "Heritage Lens: Visual Narratives on Cultural Heritage Challenges and Resilience against Climate Change".
The project aims to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on European cultural heritage through artistic expression, employing the lens of photography. Through a transnational collaboration involving 12 photographers from around Europe, experts, and activists, HeritageLens seeks to facilitate the creation and dissemination of artistic works that raise awareness on this issue.
