Zanda Puče, Armands Andže. In Search of the Lost River

€20.00

[ENG] The book is a visual observation of Latvia's longest river, its surroundings and people through the ages. The book combines various media and time periods – a story about Zanda Puče’s great-great-grandfather, boatmaker Juhan Jurss, Zanda Puče and Armands Andže's black-and-white analog photographs in the aesthetics of the early 20th century, archive materials and the story “Summer in the Boat” by Latvian writer Kārlis Students.

The title "Aa fluvius" is a reference to the name used for the Gauja in historical maps – “Aa” means wide and flowing water, and “fluvius” means river. Alongside the old and mysterious name, Gauja has long since earned a special mystical significance within Latvian culture. The book was nominated for the book art prize "Zelta ābele 2021" in the category of Art Editions, developed in the ISSP Mentoring Programme.
