ISSP continues to offer international mobility opportunities for artists even in the times of Covid-19 – the ISSP Riga Residency is open for applications for the period July – December 2021!
The Residency provides an opportunity for concentrated work on a personal project informed by interaction with Riga and its residents or much needed time to rethink and complete ongoing work. We welcome photographers, artists and curators interested in exploring the local social and cultural context. Longer stays of 2 - 3 months are recommended for 2021. Application deadline – April 25 (deadline extended to May 4, 2021)

Despite the current circumstances, we are determined to organise the fifth SELF PUBLISH RIGA edition this year as part of Riga Photomonth 2021, whatever form the event might take, and we are waiting for your book dummies till May 17th 2021. The author of the winning dummy will be awarded an exhibition at the ISSP Gallery. Additionally, we have teamed up with a top service provider FineArtPrint to grant credit towards printing and framing to the author of the best dummy from the Baltic states.

Atvērta pieteikšanās ISSP Skolas 8 nedēļu intensīvajam kursam "Ievads fotogrāfijā", kas notiks tiešsaistē. Kurss paredzēts ikvienam fotogrāfijas interesentam, kas vēlas apgūt fotogrāfiskās domāšanas pamatus un kameras tehniskās iespējas, pildot praktiskus uzdevumus un piedaloties radošās nodarbībās. Dalībniekiem būs iespēja iespēja saņemt padomus un atgriezenisko saiti no pasniedzējiem Ivetas Gabaliņas un Sandija Ruļuka visā kursa garumā.

Trešdien, 17. martā plkst 18:30 aicinām uz tiešsaistes tikšanos ar trīs baltkrievu fotogrāfiem, kas patlaban uzturās ISSP Rezidencē Rīgā - Iharu Hančaruku, Maksimu Saričevu un Violetu Savčits. Viņi pievērsīsies fotogrāfu pieredzēm un fotogrāfijas lomai šajā vēsturiski nozīmīgā brīdī Baltkrievijā, un dalīsies gan ar neseno notikumu dokumentācijām, gan ar personīgiem projektiem, kas tapuši pašreizējās pilsoniskās protesta kustības kontekstā. 

On 17 March 18:30, we invite to artist talk by three Belarusian photographers currently taking part in the ISSP Residency in Riga – Ihar Hancharuk, Maxim Sarychau and Violetta Savchits. They will focus on photographer's experiences and the role that photography plays in this particular historical time in Belarus and will show a selection of images documenting the recent events, as well as recent personal projects.

We are very happy to welcome three Belarusian photographers selected to take part in our Riga Residency - Maxim Sarychau, Violetta Savchits and Ihar Hancharuk, accompanied by designer Volha Bychkova. They crossed the border safely and will stay in Latvia till the end of March, working on their projects and archives. Big thanks to the Centre for Media Studies at SSE Riga for making this residency possible.

We are happy to announce an online masterclass with Italian duo The Cool Couple - "LOL: Photography in times of global uncertainty". The masterclass will focus on supporting participants' personal researches that aim to address some of the key issues of the present time. Through a series of group and individual meetings, the participants will learn how to improve their projects by gaining a deeper understanding of the methodology behind a coherent artistic project and will be invited to evaluate and experiment with a wide range of visual languages and methods of presentation, often pushing photography to its boundaries. 

The course will start on 19 February, application deadline - 11 February 2021! 

We are happy to announce a series of online masterclasses for the period winter - spring 2021!
The first to come is a two month masterclass with Jörg Colberg - "Text and Image, Image and Text". Throughout the history of photography, images and text have been made to work together to communicate something that is beyond their individual abilities. During the course, the participants will develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between images and text and will elaborate their own image-text project. 
The course will start on 9 February, application deadline - 1 February 2021! 

Atvērta pieteikšanās ISSP Skolas 8 nedēļu intensīvajam kursam "Ievads fotogrāfijā", kas sāksies 28. janvārī un notiks tiešsaistē. Kurss paredzēts ikvienam fotogrāfijas interesentam, kas vēlas apgūt fotogrāfiskās domāšanas pamatus un kameras tehniskās iespējas, pildot praktiskus uzdevumus un piedaloties radošās nodarbībās. Dalībniekiem būs iespēja iespēja saņemt padomus un atgriezenisko saiti no pasniedzējiem Ivetas Gabaliņas un Sandija Ruļuka visā kursa garumā.

The publisher Milda Books has released a new book “Seat 68” by Latvian photographer, ISSP School’s graduate Paula Jansone. On Friday, December 11, at 6.30 PM an online presentation of the book will be streamed on Facebook.

Izdevniecība “Milda Books” laidusi klajā fotogrāfes, ISSP Skolas absolventes Paulas Jansones fotogrāmatu “Seat 68”. Piektdien, 11. decembrī, plkst. 18.30 tiešsaistē notiks tās prezentācija (angļu valodā).

Aicinām uz Aijas Bley ilustrāciju grāmatas “8.b klase” atklāšanas vakaru 9. decembrī no plkst. 17.00 līdz 20.00, kura laikā ISSP Galerijā būs iespējams (individuāli) satikt autori un iegādāties grāmatu par īpašu cenu.

“8. b klase” veidota kā pusaudzes dienasgrāmata, kas vizuālā valodā dokumentē autores atmiņas par skolā pavadīto laiku. Unikālās 80. gadu sākuma liecības atklāj visdažādākās tēmas - arī mīlestību, sevis meklējumus, pieaugšanu un nāvi.

No 1. līdz 12. decembrim laikmetīgās mākslas galerijā LOW ir apskatama ISSP Skolas 2. kursa studentu kopīgi veidota izstāde “Es nākšu rīt”, kas tapusi, autoriem galerijā uz vietas secīgi radot un izstādot fotogrāfiskus objektus. Tā tiek rīkota mākslinieces, ISSP Skolas pasniedzējas Vikas Ekstas rezidences ietvaros. Apskatīties sadarīto iespējams no 1. līdz 12. decembrim, 17:00-20:00. Katru dienu izstādi pieskatīs un par darbiem pastāstīs kāds no māksliniekiem!
