Riga Photography Biennial & ISSP Gallery prize shortlist announced

The Riga Photography Biennial and ISSP Gallery announces 15 nominees for Seeking the Latest in Photography! Award 2019! Congratulations to Georgs Avetisjans (LV), Jurgis Gecys (LT), Veronika Gorbačova (LV), Annemarija Gulbe (LV), Aksel Haagensen (EE), Hedi Jaansoo (EE), Paula Jansone (LV), Mari-Leen Kiipli (EE), Kotryna Ula Kiliulyte (LT), Vytautas Kumza (LT), Eliis Laul (EE), Reinis Lismanis (LV), Annija Muižule (LV), Zanda Puče (LV), Aap Tepper (EE).

The award winner will be announced on November 15 and  will be offered a solo exhibition during the Riga Photography Biennial’s Off-year programme in April 2019 at the ISSP Gallery (Berga Bazārs, Riga). Several other prizes will also be awarded, including the possibility for up to 10 applicants to participate in the portfolio review of Riga Photography Biennial’s Off-year programme in 2019 free of charge.  Gytis Skudžinskas un Vilma Samulionyte (LT), founders of NoRoutine Books, will select one of the participants for their own award – an opportunity to publish a photo book.

Finalists will be selected by an international jury: Paul Paper (LT), artist and curator; Daiga Rudzāte (LV), editor-in-chief of ‘Arterritory’ culture portal and director of INDIE culture project agency; Mitch Speed (CA/DE), artist and art critic; Michael Biedowicz (DE), photo editor and owner of Pavlov’s Dog Gallery; Jonatan Habib Engqvist (SE), curator; Sten Ojave (EE), curator at Center For Contemporary Arts, Estonia; Amelie Schule (DE), ‘Unseen’ exhibition manager; Diāna Tamane (LV), artist and RPB Award 2018 winner; Iveta Gabaliņa, programme director of the ISSP Gallery.

ISSP Riga Residency 2019 - selected artists

ISSP 2019 - first thematic edition!

Dear friends, happy and successful New Year to everyone! We are very excited to announce that in 2019 the International Summer School of Photography will be moving to a new location and introducing its first thematic edition - Photography and the World. Mark the dates : 12 - 20 July 2019. The call for applications will be announced in February 2019! 

Artist talk :: Tekla Inari, Anastasia Starikova

Guided tour and talk :: Diāna Tamane, Commissions

20. decembrī plkst. 18.00 ISSP Galerija aicina uz ekskursiju pa izstādi "Pasūtījums" un tikšanos ar mākslinieci Diānu Tamani un izstādes kuratori Evitu Gozi. Būs iespējams uzzināt vairāk gan par izstādē redzamajiem darbiem, gan par iepriekšējiem projektiem, kuros Diāna sadarbojusies ar savu ģimeni.

On December 20 at 6pm the ISSP Gallery is hosting a guided tour in the exhibition Commissions & talk with the artist Diana Tamane and curator Evita Goze - a chance to hear more about the images in the exhibition and Diana's previous projects involving her family.

We're happy to announce the ISSP Weekly Planner 2019 has been released, featuring original photographs by emerging photographers from 30 countries - the participants of the ISSP 2018. The planner can be purchased at the ISSP Gallery, online, or at select design and book shops in Riga.

Riga Photography Biennal & ISSP Gallery prize winner announced

Congratulations - the Riga Photography Biennial and ISSP Gallery Award ‘Seeking the Latest in Photography!’ has been presented to Annija Muižule (Latvia) for her series ‘Joyful Businessmen Throwing Papers and Having Fun in the Office’. We're excited to show Annija's exhibition at the ISSP Gallery next spring!

Congratulations also to Reinis Lismanis, who received the special prize - an opportunity to publish his "Trial and Error" series as a photography book with NoRoutine Books!

Paradise conversations: Collage workshop with Michael Holland and Andrejs Strokins

ISSP invites you to take part in the Paradise Conversations collage workshop with artists Michael Holland and Andrejs Strokins in Riga on December 1 - 2. The workshop is open to artists, photographers and anyone who is interested in the subject and in unlocking their creativity by trying out collage techniques.
