Līdzautore pasākumu sērijai "Mēs visi esam fotogrāfi", piedalījusies vairāku fotogrāfijas konkursu (BZ WBK Press FotoShowOFF Krakovas Fotomēnesī un Photographic Publication of the Year) žūrijas darbā. JEDNOSTKA galerijas un izdevniecības dibinātāja un īpašniece.

PHOTOGRAPHERS ON THE ART MARKET
Lecture by Katarzyna Sagatowska

In the Western world, the beginning of the photography art market is often said to have been the legendary 1970 auction of the Sidney Strober Collection at the Parke-Bernetauction house in New York. Meanwhile, in Poland, as in many other Eastern Bloc countries, the photography art market only started to develop in the early 2000s. In the beginning, after years of communism, progress was slow. Neither artists nor collectors were prepared for the market’s rules. Photography, like other mediums, has its own specific requirements when it comes to preparing works for sale, including adherence to certain technical conventions and the maintenance of standard practices around signing and editions.

Katarzyna Sagatowska has been working within both the Polish and international photography markets since 2010 and has dealt with artists of all generations as well as many different collectors. Her lecture is meant for anyone interested in professional strategies within the art photography market. Sagatowska will talk about how to present your art; how to communicate with viewers, collectors and experts; and how to attain the levels of technical refinement in your work necessary to satisfy collectors’ standards, including those related to types of prints, reproduction techniques, edition sizes, and practices of dating and signing, etc. She will also touch on the topic of artists’ rights and privileges in the context of different types of collaborations—for example, when working with institutions or publishers.

Katarzyna Sagatowska (1973) is a Polish curator, photographer, lecturer and organiser of art events as well as a promoter of photography collecting in Poland. She graduated from the Institute of Creative Photography at the Silesian University in Opava, Czech Republic (where she is currently studying for a PhD), and Warsaw Technical University. She was the curator and coordinator of the project Collector’s Photography (2010–2017), which consisted of exhibitions and auctions of famous Polish artists’ photographs. She is one of the co-creators of the series of events We Are All Photographers and has worked on the juries of several photography competitions, including BZ WBK Press Foto, Krakow Photomonth's ShowOFF and Photographic Publication of the Year). Founder and owner of JEDNOSTKA gallery and publishing house.
