ISSP Skolas 2019/2021 absolventu izstāde

Izstādē “Šis nav veikals” sevi piesaka deviņas jaunās autores, ISSP Skolas divu gadu izglītības programmas “Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu” 2021. gada absolventes Anete Aramina, Annija Meikšāne, Elīna Šteinberga, Elvīra Blumfelde, Elza Marta Ruža, Ieva Ozoliņa, Jana Uljanova, Monta Kurme un Monta Gāgane.

Izstāde norisinās telpās Elizabetes ielā 87, kuras skatlogus savulaik aizņēma luksusa apģērbu veikala “Bergs” piedāvājums. Tiesa, nu jau vairākus gadus tie stāv tukši un lēni apput, gaidot nākamo īrnieku. Ņemot vērā pēdējo pāris gadu tendenci strādāt attālināti un iepirkties internetā, gaidīšanas stāvoklis draud ieilgt, bet tikmēr telpas var iegūt sev neraksturīgas aprises, piemēram, kļūstot par īslaicīgu mākslas galeriju. Izstādes nosaukums “Šis nav veikals” vedina domāt ne tikai par telpu agrāko funkciju, bet atsaucas arī uz nesenajiem ierobežojumiem, kad tirdzniecības vietas bija atvērtas, bet muzeji – slēgti, tādējādi netieši norādot sabiedrībā pašreiz valdošo vērtību sistēmu. Izstādi var skatīt arī franču filozofa Mišela Fuko slavenās esejas “Šī nav pīpe” kontekstā, kurā Fuko piedāvā Renē Magrita gleznas “Attēla nodevība” (1928–1929) dekonstrukciju valodas, attēla un realitātes mijiedarbē. Izstādē “Šis nav veikals” savu šībrīža pasaules skatījumu pauž jaunās mākslinieces, meklējot izeju no absurditātes, kas attīstījusies vairāku mēnešu distancēšanās rezultātā. Izeju no šīs situācijas radītā noguruma var meklēt, izmantojot savu personīgo pieredzi, attiecības ar dabu vai atmiņas, kuras rekonstruējot, mēs radām jaunu, iespējams, daudz pieņemamāku realitāti. Izstādes kuratore ir Iveta Gabaliņa.

Izstāde būs atvērta apmeklētājiem Elizabetes ielā 87 (bijušajās veikala Bergs telpās) līdz 24. jūlijam no otrdienas līdz sestdienai no plkst. 13.00 līdz 19.00. Ieeja – bez maksas. “Šis nav veikals” ir jau devītā ISSP Skolas divu gadu mācību programmas “Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu” absolventu izstāde. ISSP Skola ir neformālās izglītības platforma laikmetīgajā fotogrāfijā, kas piedāvā kvalitatīvu, praksē balstītu izglītību Latvijas jaunajiem fotogrāfiem, kuri vēlas paplašināt savu izpratni par fotogrāfijas mediju kā mākslas izteiksmes veidu. Līdz 25. jūlijam fotogrāfijas interesenti ar priekšzināšanām neatkarīgi no vecuma aicināti pieteikties programmas jaunajam 2021.–2023. gada mācību kursam, kas sāksies septembrī. ISSP 2010 applications completed

Dear all, the ISSP Application period is now closed. We have received 182 applications from a total of 41 countries. The runners-up after Latvia (54) are Germany (15), Italy/Russia (11), UK (10), and Finland/Turkey (7). The furthest ones are Canada/US, South Africa, and Hong Kong. We seem to have gone global this year. This is truly exciting, thank you all!

We are looking forward for evaluating the applications! The results of participants’ selection will be known by the end of the month - everyone who applied will hear from us. Have a great month of May! :)

ISSP 2010 Applications - 5 days to go

Just a reminder: the deadline for the ISSP 2010 Applications is 10 May 2010 as announced and will not be prolonged. We will be accepting applications till 24:00 Monday, 10th of May. Any applications arriving later will only be considered for the Waiting list, if at all.

Ps. We are already very excited about the amazing collection of applications that have already arrived (by now from 28 countries, 4 continents)! We wish you all good luck and are looking forward for the selection process!

Aaron Shuman in Riga (second try)

We all try again and are looking forward to host Aaron Shuman in Riga this weekend, provided no more volcano surprises coming up. The lecture “Whatever Was Splendid: New American Photographs” will take place at kim? at 19:00 on Saturday 1 May 2010.

The workshop Aesthetics of nostalgia will run this weekend, 1-2 May. You are welcome to apply for several vacant places till this Friday, 30 April!

ISSP Applications open (but for Safaris)

Hey hey! We are pleased to announce that the applications for the International Summer School of Photography 2010 are officially open. The deadline for applications is 10 May 2010. We will accept 60 students in total this year.

One small note! - our newly introduced on-line Application form still refuses to make friends with Safari browser, so problems with uploading photos there. Thus you will be on safer side if you use any other browser than Safari if you want to apply immediately. We are working on this problem, so hopefully everything works everywhere soon!
And of course, we are looking forward to seeing your applications!

Aaron Shuman in Riga: workshop and lecture

In framework of US culture month in Riga “Made in USA“, we are pleased to invite applications to an ISSP-run workshop Aesthetics of nostalgia by a great photographer, editor, writer and curator Aaron Shuman. The workshop shall take place on 17-18 April 2010, at kim? Riga.

The two days course combines lectures, critique, and individual photographing by participants to explore in depth the subject of NOSTALGIA. See complete workshop description here, and apply till 15 April!

ISSP 2010 in the cooking

Hey  hey! Just in case anybody doubts it - ISSP 2010 will take place this year, disregarding all the crises!!! And it will be greater than ever, with fantastic teachers, and of course, fantastic students!:) The dates are 31 July - 8 August 2010, in Ezersala, Ludza. We are actively working on the preparations and fundraising - lets keep our fingers crossed for our yet-unconfirmed supporters and sponsors, as we hope to keep the fees down as usual…

We plan to announce the applications by the beginning of April 2010! btw, we have received two applications already - using the 2009 form. these are considered too late… upps… too early ;-))
