We are happy to announce selected ISSP Artists in Residency for 2022!

It was not easy to choose between all the amazing applications we have received, but here comes the list of the selected artists: Helen Liene Dreifelds (CAN), Lucyna Kolendo (PL), David Doros(SK), Caitlin E. Littlewood (AU/SE), Carlo Lombardi (IT), Hanna Råst (FI), Cristina Molina (USA, in cooperation with Maija Rudovska and Parse Nola) and Andrea Torrei (IT, in cooperation with Eyes on Main Street Wilson).

Can’t wait to welcome them in Riga starting from January and get to know them and their work!

The United Riga Residency (ISSP + kuš!) is supported by Nordic Culture Point. A few more slots for the fall semester are still open - will be filled via an Open call in Spring 2022.

Visvaldas Morkevičius – Gaidu tikšanos ar sevi / Looking Forward to Meet Me

Riga Photography Biennial – NEXT 2021 and ISSP Gallery invite you to attend the Riga Photography Biennial – NEXT "Seeking the Latest in Photography!" Award winner's Visvaldas Morkevičius exhibition "Looking Forward to Meet Me”, which will be on view at the ISSP Gallery from July 9 to August 11. Opening – July 8 at 6 PM.

ISSP Skolas 2019/2021 absolventu izstāde

No 9. līdz 24. jūlijam Berga bazārā, Elizabetes ielā 87, būs skatāma izstāde “Šis nav veikals”. Atklājot šībrīža pasaules skatījumu, tajā savus fotogrāfijas projektus prezentēs jaunās mākslinieces – ISSP Skolas 2021. gada absolventes. Atklāšana notiks 8. jūlijā pulksten 19.00.

SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2021 winners announced!

We are excited to announce the winners of the SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2021 dummy contest! The first prize goes to “An ordinary story” by Nadezhda Ermakova (Russia) and the prize for the best Baltic dummy is awarded to “Half Houses” by Inga Navickaitė-Drąsutė (Lithuania). Congratulations to the winners and authors of the shortlisted dummies!

Pieteikšanās atvērta, līdz grupa ir pilna!

Atvērta pieteikšanās ISSP Skolas divu gadu vakaru programmai “Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu” 2021/2023! Jaunā kursa sākums – 2021. gada septembrī.

Programma paredzēta dalībniekiem ar priekšzināšanām un nodrošina studentiem atvērtu, radošu un kritisku vidi, kurā attīstīt savu vizuālo valodu un individuālo pieeju fotogrāfijai, saņemot atgriezenisko saiti no nozares profesionāļiem un studiju biedriem.

Par mākslu un aktīvismu :: Krista Burāne – Artivisms Latvijas performatīvajā mākslā

15. jūnijā plkst. 18.30 aicinām tiešsaistē pievienoties režisores, dramaturģes un starpdisciplināru mākslas projektu autores Kristas Burānes stāstījumam "Artivisms Latvijas performatīvajā mākslā. No kauna līdz triumfam". Tajā Burāne spriedīs par to, kāpēc artivisms un sociāli aktīvi mākslas procesi Latvijā joprojām ir reti sastopami, un aplūkos tos retos darbus, kuros tas izpaužas.

On Art and Activism :: Airi Triisberg – Activism and contemporary art in the Baltics

Attention – Airi Triisberg's lecture will take place on 29 June! We continue a series of lectures on art and activism with an online talk by Estonian curator, art critic and educator Airi Triisberg “The entanglements of alter-globalisation movement and contemporary art in the Baltic region”.

Tiešsaistes lekcija mākslai un aktīvismam veltītajā ciklā no igauņu kuratores, rakstnieces un pedagoģes Airi Trīsbergas – “Alternatīvās globalizācijas kustības un laikmetīgās mākslas krustpunkti Baltijā”. Lekcija pārcelta – tā notiks 29. jūnijā plkst. 18.30!

SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2021

No 1. jūnija līdz 1. jūlijam ISSP Galerijā skatāma SELF PUBLISH RIGA izstāde, kas piedāvā iepazīties ar vairākām grāmatu kolekcijam: "Paris Photo – Aperture PhotoBook Awards" 2020, "Africa in the Photobook", "Nordic Dummy Award", Latvijas, Lietuvas un Igaunijas pēdējo gadu fotogrāmatas, kā arī labākie konkursam iesūtītie fotogrāmatu maketi un Annas Volkovas īpaši veidotā instalācija “Stikla Strenči dažos vārdos”. SELF PUBLISH RIGA ir viens no galvenajiem Rīgas Fotomēneša notikumiem, kas veltīts fotogrāmatām un pašizdošanai.

From June 1 until July 1 the ISSP Gallery will host the SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2021 exhibition of several fascinating photobook collections and a special installation dedicated to the "Glass Strenči". The event is dedicated to photobooks and self-publishing and is one of the main events of Riga Photomonth.

Programma sāksies ar divu dienu meistardarbnīcu Ruckas mākslas rezidenču centrā Cēsīs jūnijā un turpināsies ar praktiskā darba un konsultāciju posmu līdz septembrim, kura ietvaros dalībnieki īstenos savus projektus jeb radošā aktīvisma akcijas.

Masterclass Text & Image (edition 2)

NB! One place for the group starting 16th June is available!
Do you have a complete (or almost complete) photographic project, where you are struggling to include text? We will be repeating the practical online masterclass "Text and Image, Image and Text" with writer and educator Jörg Colberg in June - July 2021. During the 8 week masterclass, participants will work on deeper understanding the relationship between text and image, and finding the best way to include text into their personal project. Applications to the course will be accepted until the group is complete.  

On Art and Activism :: J. Jordan – In-between Everything

On April 21, 18.30 we start a series of lectures on art and activism with an online talk by the 'magician of rebellion', co-founder of Reclaim The Streets movement J. Jordan (FR) - "In-between Everything: art and activism, nature and culture, male and female – a non-binary guide to creative rebellion”.

21. aprīlī plkst. 18.30 aicinām uz 'dumpju burvja', Reclaim the Streets kustības līdzdibinātāja J. Jordana tiešsaistes lekciju “Visam pa vidu: māksla un aktīvisms, daba un kultūra, vīrišķais un sievišķais – radošas sacelšanās nebinārās vadlīnijas”.

ISSP continues to offer international mobility opportunities for artists even in the times of Covid-19 – the ISSP Riga Residency is open for applications for the period July – December 2021!
The Residency provides an opportunity for concentrated work on a personal project informed by interaction with Riga and its residents or much needed time to rethink and complete ongoing work. We welcome photographers, artists and curators interested in exploring the local social and cultural context. Longer stays of 2 - 3 months are recommended for 2021. Application deadline – April 25 (deadline extended to May 4, 2021)
