20:00 Doris Gassert, Curator, Fotomuseum Winterthur (CH)
"SITUATIONS and Post-Photography"
Doris will speak about the SITUATIONS programme at Fotomuseum Winterthur, and about what is sometimes referred to as „post-photography“ - a reflection on current changes within photographic culture and the expansion of photographic media in reaction to digital media and technologies.

Doris Gassert is Research Curator at Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland, where she co-curates SITUATIONS, runs the blog Still Searching… and is responsible for Fotomuseum’s publications. With SITUATIONS, a research lab and exhibition format that investigates current changes in photographic media and culture, she helps develop Fotomuseum’s program and understanding of post-photography. She holds a PhD in media studies from the University of Basel, Switzerland, where she teaches media aesthetics, with a focus on the intermediality and epistemology of photography and the politics of representation.

"Positions on books and publishing"
The talk will cover a number of key points in relation to the photobooks - the importance of content, different types of publishing, the pros and cons of self-publishing vs cooperating with the publisher, finding the money and other key elements to take into account when making a book.

Aron Mörel is a London-based non-profit independent publisher specializing in limited edition photo and art books. Mörel’s intimate and playful while respectful collaboration with artists is what defines his collections best. Mörel Books is “the final step in an artist’s process and encourages the artist to engage in the conception, design, and feel of the book.” Morel looks at books and artists democratically - with a constant output of established artist as well as emerging artists - including the likes of Antony Cairns, Alix Marie, Thomas Ruff, Boris Mikhailov, Marie Angeletti, Corinne Day to mention a few.

20:00 Peggy Sue Amison, Artistic Director, East Wing Doha Gallery (Qatar-Berlin)
“Whats next? - professionalizing artistic practice"
The talk will cover the key aspects important for the artists who wish to 'clean up their act' and professionalize their practice. Such as 'How do curators work?', 'How does one approach a gallery?', 'How should an artist use social media to promote their works?', 'How to make use of workshops and other events like portfolio reviews, festivals and art fairs?' As well as practical tips on printing editions and copyright issues involved in posting works on the internet.

Peggy Sue Amison is Artistic Director of East Wing; a platform for photography, founded in Doha, Qatar. She is also an independent producer, exhibition curator, consultant, collaborator, editor and writer. Peggy Sue was the former Artistic Director of Sirius Arts Centre, a multidisciplinary non profit artist residency and exhibition programme in Ireland; one of the founding Board Members of Belfast Photo Festival, N. Ireland; and long-term collaborator with Picture Berlin, an artist residency in Germany. Her curatorial practice has taken her to the UAE, Ireland, China, Germany, Denmark, Poland and the USA. Throughout her career first as an artist, and then as an artistic director, curator and producer, Peggy Sue has first-hand experience of the challenges facing artists and organisations and strives to address these issues in her work, championing emerging and established artists and colleagues internationally.

On Saturday 16 March at 18:00 everyone is invited to the opening of the final Exhibition of the works created by the Masterclass participants and the guided tour by the authors! The exhibition will be open at Kuldīgas Mākslas nams until 7 April.

Artist talks :: Stewart Hardie, Hiro Tanaka

Trešdien, 22. janvārī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP Galerijā Berga bazārā notiks tikšanās ar šībrīža ISSP Rīgas Rezidences māksliniekiem Stjuartu Hārdiju (Lielbritānija) un Hiro Tanaku (Japāna). Interesentiem būs iespēja uzzināt par viņu līdzšinējo darbību, kā arī Rīgā topošajiem projektiem.

On January 22 at 6.30 PM a meeting with ISSP Riga Residency artists Stewart Hardie (the UK) and Hiro Tanaka (Japan) will take place at the ISSP Gallery, Riga. The attendees will have a chance to hear about their previous work, as well as projects they are developing in Riga.

ISSP Riga Residency 2020 open for applications!

We are happy to announce that the applications for the ISSP Riga Residency are open for the period June – December 2020! Photographers and artists working with photography are invited to stay in our beautiful residency apartment and work on a personal project in Riga or surroundings for a period of 1–2 months. Application deadline 15 February 2020.

Wow, kāds lielisks skats

No 16. janvāra līdz 4. aprīlim ISSP Galerijā apskatāma izstāde “Wow, kāds lielisks skats”. Tās laikā ISSP Galerija pārtapusi improvizētā rezidences dzīvoklī, kurā eksponēti sešu mākslinieku darbi, tapuši, uzturoties ISSP Rīgas rezidencē.

The exhibition “Wow, what a great view”, open from January 16 to April 4 at the ISSP Gallery, is set up as the residency apartment turned upside down and features works of six artists, created during their time at the ISSP Riga Residency. 

Book launch / grāmatas atklāšana: "Flower Smuggler", Diāna Tamane

ISSP cordially invites you to the launch of the new book of Diāna Tamane "Flower Smuggler" and the artist talk in conversation with curator Evita Goze. The event will take place on January 7 at 18.30 at the ISSP in Berga Bazārs.

Bērnu un vecvecāku diena ISSP Galerijā

21. decembrī plkst. 12.00 ISSP ielūdz uz radošo darbnīcu bērniem un vecvecākiem, kas notiks ISSP Galerijā. Dalībniekiem būs iespēja pārliecināties, cik jauka un svarīga ir dažādu paaudžu darbošanās kopā, un ka nekas nav labāks par pašu meistarotu dāvanu!

Mako Ishizuka – Instalācijas / Installations

Līdz 27. decembrim ISSP Galerijā apskatāmi divi Zviedrijā dzīvojošās japāņu mākslinieces Mako Išidzukas (Mako Ishizuka) darbi – 2014. gadā aizsāktā projekta “Pārgatavošanās un bojāšanās” daļa, kas veidota kā zīmējuma instalācija jeb “domu karte”, un instalācija “Grāmatplaukts”.

Until December 27, the ISSP Gallery presents two artworks – “After-Ripening & Corruption” and “Bookshelf” – by Japanese-born Swedish artist Mako Ishizuka who uses synthesis of text and visual conception in her art.

ISSPPP X + X

No 6. līdz 28. decembrim ISSP Galerija pārtaps par improvizētu plakātu mākslas izstādi un gadatirgu “ISSPPP X + X”, piedāvājot aplūkot un iegādāties 20 īpaši izvēlētus Latvijas jauno fotogrāfu un ilustratoru darbus vienkāršā, gaumīgā un pieejamā formātā – plakātā. Projektā piedalās desmit fotogrāfi un desmit ilustratori. Atklāšanas pasākums notiks 6. decembrī plkst. 19.00.

From December 6 to 28, the ISSP Gallery will turn into an improvised poster art exhibition and fair “ISSPPP X + X”, offering to see and purchase 20 carefully selected affordable posters by ten young Latvian photographers and ten illustrators. The launch event will take place on December 6 at 19.00.

Bērnu un ģimeņu diena ISSP Galerijā

Līdz 27. novembrim ISSP Galerijā skatāma mākslinieces Evitas Gozes personālizstāde “Sardzē”. Tās pamatā ir piecu gadu garumā tapusi fotogrāfiju sērija, kurā autore caur Jaunsardzes kustības vērojumiem pievēršas pieaugšanas un vīrišķības tēmām. 16. novembrī ISSP aicina uz radošo darbnīcu bērniem un ģimenēm, kuras dalībniekiem būs iespēja doties iztēles pārgājienā ar jaunsargu!

“Daffodil” – Bahadir Aksan

Klajā nākusi fotogrāfa Bahadira Aksana (Bahadir Aksan, Turcija) grāmata “Daffodil”, kas pērn tika atzīta par labāko ISSP rīkotajā fotogrāmatu maketu konkursā SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2018. Aksans ieguva galveno balvu – iespēju publicēt grāmatu sadarbībā ar Kauņas Fotogrāfijas galeriju, izdevniecību KOPA un Antalis.

“Daffodil”, a book by photographer Bahadir Aksan (Turkey) has now been published. Being the winner of the SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2018 dummy contest Bahadir Aksan had the opportunity to publish his book in collaboration with Kaunas Photography Gallery, Printing house KOPA and Antalis.
