One of the great photographic innovators of the last century, Duane Michals is widely known for his work with photography series, multiple exposures, and text. In his talk on photography and reality, Duane will give an overview his photographic philosophy. 

21.30 – 22.45 Artist talk by Anouk Kruithof (NL)

Anouk Kruithof is a Dutch artist who is known for her innovative use of photography within the framework of contemporary art. She will talk about her practice including book-publishing stresspress.biz as well as the Anamorphosis Prize that she has set up.

Paolo Woods dedicates himself to long-term documentary projects that combine photography with investigative journalism. Gabriele Galimberti is a documentary photographer who is telling the stories of people around the world. Both part of the Riverboom collective, their joint projectThe Heavens is the first photographic investigation into the workings of tax havens around the world.

21.45 – 22.30 Artist talk by Alejandro Chaskielberg (AR)

Argentinian photographer Alejandro Chaskielberg has established a reputation for his innovative vision and sensibility that crosses the boundaries between document and art, his signature style combining a unique way of using light and colour.

20.00 – 21.15 Artist talk by Federico Clavarino (IT/ES) - "Speaks true who speaks shadows"

Federico Clavarino defines his work as "originating from problems regarding location in space and in time" - shaping the Imaginary in an effort to reconstruct the world. Clavarino will speak about his newest book The Castle (2016) and the process of making it, as well as his previous publication – Italia o Italia (2014).

21.30 – 23.00 Artist talk by Taiyo Onorato (CH)

Swiss artist Taiyo Onorato works with photography, film and sculpture, since 2003 cooperating with artist Nico Krebs. He will speak about their critically acclaimed collaborations that have been widely showcased all around the world.

Leonardo Taddei – Tur / There, There

Kopā ar Totaldobže Mākslas centru Viskaļu ielā 36 esam atklājuši ISSP Rīgas rezidences mākslinieka, itāļu fotogrāfa Leonardo Taddei izstādi "Tur", kas būs apskatāma līdz 24. oktobrim. Itālijas un Latvijas laukos tapušais fotoprojekts atklāj jūtīgu skatījumu uz cilvēka un dabas attiecībām un to, kādas mēs tās iztēlojamies.

Until 24 October, in cooperation with Totaldobže and Free Riga, we are happy to present the exhibition “There, There” by our current artist-in-residence Leonardo Taddei (IT). Leonardo’s project is a sensitive exploration of the human relationship with nature, or our way of imagining it.

Darbnīca bērniem "Aizraujošā Arktika"

Sestdien, 25. septembrī, plkst. 12.30 ISSP Galerijā notiks radošā darbnīca “Aizraujošā Arktika” kopā ar jauno mākslinieci, ISSP Jauniešu skolas pasniedzēju Adelīnu Kalniņu.
Aktivitātēs aicināti piedalīties bērni vecumā no 5 līdz 10 gadiem un viņu līdznācēji.

ISSP Gallery takes part at the Photo Basel 2021 art fair

From September 21 to 26, the ISSP Gallery will participate at the Photo Basel art fair, taking place at Volkshaus Basel, Switzerland, offering visitors an opportunity to get to know works by Latvian photographers Kristīne Krauze-Slucka and Iveta Gabaliņa.

No 21. līdz 26. septembrim ISSP Galerija piedalīsies prestižajā mākslas mesē “Photo Basel”, kas norisināsies Bāzelē, Šveicē. Tās apmeklētāji tiks iepazīstināti ar latviešu mākslinieču Kristīnes Krauzes-Sluckas un Ivetas Gabaliņas darbiem.

Voldemārs Johansons – Vētra neredz krāsu / Storm Sees No Colour

No 20. augusta līdz 30. septembrim ISSP Galerijā būs skatāma mākslinieka un komponista Voldemāra Johansona personālizstāde “Vētra neredz krāsu”, kuras sākumpunkts meklējams Johansona ekspedīcijās uz Ziemeļu puslodes arktiskajiem apgabaliem. Atklāšana – 19. augustā plkst. 18.00. Laipni aicināti!

From August 20 to September 30, the ISSP Gallery is hosting the solo exhibition “Storm Sees no Colour”, inspired by artist and composer Voldemārs Johansons’ expeditions to the arctic terrains of the Northern hemisphere. Opening – August 19 at 6 PM. Welcome!

Kristīne Krauze–Slucka – fotogrāmatas prezentācija / photobook presentation

29. jūlijā plkst. 18.30 ISSP notiks Kristīnes Krauzes-Sluckas fotogrāmatas “Materiālā visuma vibrācijas. Zelta slāpes” prezentācija, kurā piedalīsies māksliniece un izdevēju “NoRoutine Books” pārstāvji. Pasākums ir bez maksas un norisināsies angļu valodā. Laipni aicināti!

On July 29 at 18.30 a presentation of Kristīne Krauze–Slucka’s new photobook “Vibrations of a Material Universe. Thirst of Gold” will take place at the ISSP. The presentation will be held in English and is free of charge. Welcome!

“Šis nav veikals” finisāža

Ceturtdien, 22. jūlijā, plkst. 18.00 aicinām uz ISSP Skolas absolventu izstādes “Šis nav veikals” finisāžas pasākumu. Vakara programmā – tikšanās ar jaunajām māksliniecēm, ekskursija izstādē, kolāžas darbnīca pieaugušajiem un bērniem, sarunas un mūzika.

Izstāde Elizabetes ielā 87 apskatāma vēl tikai līdz sestdienai, 24. jūlijam.

On Art and Activism :: Airi Triisberg – Activism and contemporary art in the Baltics

Attention – Airi Triisberg's lecture will take place on 29 June! We continue a series of lectures on art and activism with an online talk by Estonian curator, art critic and educator Airi Triisberg “The entanglements of alter-globalisation movement and contemporary art in the Baltic region”.

Tiešsaistes lekcija mākslai un aktīvismam veltītajā ciklā no igauņu kuratores, rakstnieces un pedagoģes Airi Trīsbergas – “Alternatīvās globalizācijas kustības un laikmetīgās mākslas krustpunkti Baltijā”. Lekcija pārcelta – tā notiks 29. jūnijā plkst. 18.30!

No 1. jūnija līdz 1. jūlijam ISSP Galerijā skatāma SELF PUBLISH RIGA izstāde, kas piedāvā iepazīties ar vairākām grāmatu kolekcijam: "Paris Photo – Aperture PhotoBook Awards" 2020, "Africa in the Photobook", "Nordic Dummy Award", Latvijas, Lietuvas un Igaunijas pēdējo gadu fotogrāmatas, kā arī labākie konkursam iesūtītie fotogrāmatu maketi un Annas Volkovas īpaši veidotā instalācija “Stikla Strenči dažos vārdos”. SELF PUBLISH RIGA ir viens no galvenajiem Rīgas Fotomēneša notikumiem, kas veltīts fotogrāmatām un pašizdošanai.

From June 1 until July 1 the ISSP Gallery will host the SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2021 exhibition of several fascinating photobook collections and a special installation dedicated to the "Glass Strenči". The event is dedicated to photobooks and self-publishing and is one of the main events of Riga Photomonth.
