International Masterclass Kuldīga results exhibition

:: LV ::

No 15. – 21. martam Kuldīgā norisinājās jaunās ISSP Starptautiskās meistarklases pirmā sesija, pulcējot 24 fotogrāfus no 12 pasaules valstīm. Meistarklases dalībnieki satikās pirmo reizi, lai uzsāktu darbu pie ilgtermiņa projektiem, ko viņi turpinās gada garumā pasniedzēju Ārona Šūmana, Jurija Kozireva un Andreja Poļikanova vadībā.

Nedēļas laikā dalībnieki veidoja fotogrāfijas sērijas, instalācijas un video darbus mijiedarbībā ar Kuldīgas vidi un cilvēkiem - improvizētā ielas fotostudijā fotogrāfi ir izveidojuši konsolidētus kuldīdznieku portretus, savukārt konceptuālās darbnīcas dalībnieki veidojuši fotogrāfiskus “labirintus”, izmantojot pilsētā atrastus pavedienus - vēsturisku attēlus, tekstu un Kuldīgā radītu darbus.

Izstāde būs apskatāma no 22.marta līdz 12.aprīlim.

:: ENG ::

From 15 - 21 March, Kuldīga hosted the first session of the ISSP International Masterclass, brining together 24 emerging photographers from 12 countries. The participants met for the first time to start working on their long-term projects under the guidance of the masterclass tutors Aaron Schuman, Yuri Kozyrev and Andrei Polikanov.

During the week the participants created photography series interacting with Kuldīga and its inhabitants - two portraits of "average Kuldīgans" (male and female) were made in the improvised street photography studio, whilst other participants were creating "labyrinths" using clues - photographs, texts and objects - found in the town.

We cordially invite you to the presentation of the results and opening of a pop-up exhibition at Kuldīga Arts Hall on March 21 at 18:00!

The exhibition will be open to public from 22 March until 12 April.

ISSP is moving to Kuldīga

Now, this is not a 1st April joke, its official: the ISSP international summer school is moving to Kuldīga! Though it all happened a little suddenly, we are happy with the new situation. The new location, Pelči boarding school, is 4 km away from town, so we’ll keep all the intimacy of the campus. Kuldīga is a gem and a runner up UNESCO world heritage site, it will for sure charm everyone.
Besides, we will have a real castle all for ourselves - imagine ! :)

Peter Bialobrzeski on ISSP

Last but not least - Peter Bialobrzeski on ISSP (17 October 2010):

ISSP 2010 was the best photography event I have participated in this year. Teaching there was special, a childhood-like summer with plenty of lovely people, fellow teachers and workshop participants likewise. The workshop was an intense work experience with a lovely holiday feel about it!

Roger Ballen on ISSP

Roger Ballen on ISSP (31 August 2010):

It was a wonderful experience teaching at ISSP. In this quiet rustic location the students immersed themselves into photography, into themselves.

Veronique Bourgoin on ISSP

Veronique Bourgoin on ISSP (31 August 2010):

Welcoming, strong, international, wild, professional, warm, free… the ISSP team produces a perfect cocktail to open up some crazy space for creation.

George Georgiou on ISSP

George Georgiou on ISSP (29 August 2010):

The organization, energy and enthusiasm of ISSP founders is contagious and sets the scene for the whole event. The remoteness of the location brings an intensity that is bonding for all who take part. The inspiration, friendships and energy will live with many for a long time. A week of great creativity and soul searching for all involved.

Andrei Polikanov on ISSP

Andrei Polikanov on ISSP (26 August 2010):

The terrific and dangerously fruitful mixture of talent and youth, creativity and professionalism,responsibility and integrity, curiosity and persistence, joy and freedom- makes the ISSP summer school truly unforgettable. I miss it a lot!
