Sestdien, 29. septembrī, plkst. 15.00 aicinām uz mākslinieces Maijas Anniki Savolainenas vadītu ekskursiju izstādē “Solarofīti” ISSP Galerijā, kuras laikā viņa stāstīs par darbu tapšanas procesu un bioloģe Tita Kotilainena sniegs ieskatu savos pētījumos par saules radiāciju un augu bioloģiju.
No 27. septembra līdz 3. novembrim ISSP Galerijā redzama M.A. Savolainenas izstāde “Solarofīti”, kuras nosaukums veidots no jēdzieniem “solar-” (saules-) un “-fīti” (norāde uz augu vai specifisku biotopu). Tā pievēršas fotogrāfiskiem procesiem, kas neietilpst cilvēkam redzamajā elektromagnētisko viļņu diapazonā. Līdzās fotogrāfijām, māksliniece izmanto skulptūru, skaņu, īpaši izstādei veidotus robotus un dabas materiālus, kas visi ir savstarpēji saistīti.
Izstāde veidota sadarbībā ar bioloģi Titu Kotilainenu, kura specializejas augu fotobioloģijā, un jau gadiem ilgi pēta attiecības starp augiem un gaismu. Gaismas pāreja no vienas formas uz otru ir fotogrāfijas esence – starojums atstāj pēdas uz gaismjutīga, taustāma materiāla, piemēram, fotofilmas, bet tas līdzvērtīgi iedarbojas arī uz augiem, kas absorbē gaismu, izmantojot to kā enerģijas avotu. Tāpat augi izmanto gaismu, lai noteiktu gadalaiku un iegūtu informāciju par savu vidi – vai apkārt atrodas citi augi, cik spilgta ir saule. Tito Kotilainena savu darbu pielīdzina tulkam, kas strādā ar valodu – gaismu, ko cilvēki un augi uztver un interpretē dažādos veidos.
Maija Anniki Savolainena ir Somijas māksliniece, kas savos darbos izmanto fotogrāfiju, video un instalāciju. Iepriekš studējusi bioloģiju, kas ietekmējis arī viņas mākslinieces praksi – tā apvieno mākslu ar dabaszinātni, īpaši pievēršoties gaismai kā netaustāmai informācijas formai. Bieži sadarbojas ar dažādu nozaru zinātniekiem un māksliniekiem.

Welcome to a guided tour of “Solarophytes” on September 29 at 3PM at the ISSP Gallery during which artist Maija Annikki Savolainen will talk about her creative process and biologist Titta Kotilainen will present her research on sunlight radiation and plant biology.
Solarophytes is on view at the ISSP Gallery from September 27 – November 3. The name is derived from the terms “solar”- (relating to or determined by the sun) and “-phytes” (a reference to a plant or plant-like organism), and focuses on photographic processes that are not within the visible range of electromagnetic radiation. Alongside photographs, the artist makes use of sculpture, sound, especially designed robots and natural materials, all of which are interconnected.
The exhibition is created in collaboration with biologist Titta Kotilainen, who is specialized in plant photobiology and has been researching the relationship between light and plant photobiological responses for years. The transition of light from one form to another is the essence of photography - radiation leaves traces on photosensitive, tangible material, such as photographic film or a digital sensor, but it also affects plants that absorb light, using it as an energy source. Plants also use light quality to determine the time or season, and their environment – for example, are there other plants growing nearby or if there is a need to protect themselves against excessive irradiance. Titta Kotilainen likens her role to that of a translator. Light is the language, but humans and plants perceive it and understand it in a different way.
Maija Annikki Savolainen is a visual artist working with photography, video and installation. With a background in studying biology, her work tends to combine natural science and art in a distinctive way. Sunlight and photographic gesture are significant themes in her practice. She often works in collaboration with scientists and artists from various fields. Her works have been exhibited widely in Finland and in Europe.

They will be talking about their work, and we will open a pop-up exhibition delving into the realities of the Vietnamese diaspora in Riga by Lê Quyên Nguyễn!

We invite you to meet our current artist in residence, photographer Theo Elias on 25 July, 19.00 at Bolderāja! Theo will speak about his work, including the project he has been developing in Latvia since 2018 when he was the first artist to take part in the ISSP Riga residency.
We are pleased to invite you to a meeting with two visual artists and educators from Adelaide, South Australia - Amber Cronin and Tom Borgas on 15th July at 7 p.m.! Ielūdzam uz kino vakaru 23. jūlijā plkst. 19.00 ISSP telpās kontekstā ar ISSP Galerijā skatāmo izstādi “Mūsdienu fotogrāfijas vēstures II” (autori: Annemarija Gulbe un Konstantīns Žukovs)! Izstādē māksliniece Annemarija Gulbe pētījusi fotogrāfa, operatora un režisora Ulda Brauna mantojumu – fotogrāfijā, kā arī viņa vienīgajā spēlfilmā “Motociklu vasara” (1975), veidojot savu refleksiju par to un aicinot atskatīties atpakaļskata spogulī.
Valmieras vasaras teātra festivāla nedēļā laikā no 31. jūlija līdz 4. augustam Valmieras pilsētas iedzīvotājiem un viesiem būs iespēja aplūkot ISSP veidoto vides objektu “Melnais kubs - Camera Obscura”. Tiks organizētas arī pavadošās radošās meistarklases, piedāvājot apmeklētājiem mūsdienīgu un unikālu kultūrizglītojošo pieredzi.
ISSP Galerijā 4. jūlijā plkst. 18.00 Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles 2024 ietvaros tiks atklāta otrā daļa divu izstāžu ciklam “Mūsdienu fotogrāfijas vēstures”, kurā atspoguļotas vairāku mākslinieku versijas un interpretācijas par vietējās fotogrāfijas vēstures rakstīšanas procesiem. Izstādē piedalās mākslinieki Annemarija Gulbe un Konstantīns Žukovs, un tā būs skatāma no 5. jūlija līdz 15. augustam.
