Trešdien, 10. oktobrī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP telpās notiks tikšanās ar ISSP Rīgas rezidences mākslinieku Tibo Hencu un kuratoru Deividu Ešliju Kerru. Interesentiem būs iespēja uzzināt par viņu radošo sadarbību, Tibo līdzšinējo darbību, kā arī Rīgā topošajiem projektiem.
Pasākums notiks angļu valodā, ieeja – bez maksas.
On Wednesday, October 28 at 6.30 PM a meeting with ISSP Riga Residency artist Thibaut Henz and his friend, colleague and curator David Ashley Kerr will take place at the ISSP. The attendees will have a chance to hear about Thibaut’s previous work, as well as projects he is now working on in Riga.
The event will take place in English, free entrance.

ISSP Rīgas rezidences mākslinieks Tibo Hencs sarunā ar draugu un kolēģi kuratoru Deividu Ešliju Kerru atklās savu redzējumu par ielu fotogrāfijas žanru mūsdienās un to, kā fotogrāfija ietekmējusi Tibo skatījumu uz pasauli. Rādot savus iepriekšējos un šībrīža darbus, abi vaļsirdīgi runās par Tibo karjeras pirmssākumiem, atkarību mestajiem izaicinājumiem un to, kā viņš ir atgriezies pie klasiskās flâneur jeb klaiņotāja būtības, kas kalpo kā savveida terapijas forma.
Tibo Hencs (Thibaut Henz, Beļģija) rada attēlus, kas ir dziļi, aizskaroši un skaisti vienlaikus. Klaiņojot caur valstīm un pilsētām, publiskām un privātām telpām, viņš dokumentē dažādus sabiedrības slāņus un to liecības, pārmaiņus pievēršoties gan momentuzņēmumiem, gan iestudētiem portretiem, un vienlaikus graujot izpratni par tradicionālu ielu fotogrāfiju.
2019. gadā Hencs saņēma prestižo Ars Viva balvu. Mākslinieks piedalījies virknē izstāžu Eiropā un ārpus tās, tostarp izstāžu zālē Kunsthalle Vienna un Laikmetīgās fotogrāfijas centrā Melburnā, kur šobrīd skatāma Deivida Ešlija Kerra kūrētā izstāde “No True Self”. Pašlaik Hencs dzīvo Veimārā, Vācijā.
Deivids Ešlijs Kerrs (David Ashley Kerr, Austrālija) ir kurators, rakstnieks un mākslinieks. Viņa nesenie pētījumi un teksti veltīti intimitātei postdigitālajā laikmetā saistībā ar attēlu kultūru un cilvēciskajām saiknēm. Kerrs aktīvi piedalījies Melburnas mākslas scēnas attīstībā un 2013. gadā līdzdibinājis galeriju “Strange Neighbour”. Pirms pārcelšanās uz Eiropu 2015. gadā Kerrs bija fotogrāfijas pasniedzējs Fotogrāfijas studiju koledžā un Dīkina universitātē Austrālijā. Šobrīd ir viespētnieks Helsinku Mākslu universitātē un uzturas Veimārā un Rīgā.

ISSP resident artist Thibaut Henz and his long-term friend and colleague, curator Ashley Kerr will speak about Street Photography as a genre of the present moment, and how Henz perceives the world around him through the act of photography. The conversation will touch candidly the issues of Henz’s early career, his challenges with substance abuse, how he has come to return to the role of classic flâneur, and how this operates as a form of therapy. A range of images from the past and present will be presented.
Thibaut Henz (Belgium) creates images that are at once visceral, affronting and beautiful. Flâneuring through cities and countries, public and private spaces, Henz documents the nuances of high and low culture, alternating between snapshots and staged portraiture in a visceral and affronting approach to images and photography as a medium, while drawing from and subverting the long tradition of street photography. Henz was awarded the prestigious Ars Viva prize in 2019, and has exhibited extensively in Europe and elsewhere, including at Kunsthalle Vienna and the current exhibition NO TRUE SELF at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, Australia, curated by David Ashley Kerr. Henz lives and works in Weimar, Germany.
David Ashley Kerr (Australia) is a curator, writer and trained artist. His recent research and writing examines intimacy in the post-digital in relation to image culture and human connection. David has played an active role in arts development in Melbourne, and in 2013 co-founded curator-led gallery and darkroom Strange Neighbour. He worked as a lecturer in photomedia at Photography Studies College and Deakin University before relocating to the EU in 2015. Currently, he is a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Artistic Research of the University of the Arts Helsinki. Kerr lives and works between Weimar and Riga.

They will be talking about their work, and we will open a pop-up exhibition delving into the realities of the Vietnamese diaspora in Riga by Lê Quyên Nguyễn!

We invite you to meet our current artist in residence, photographer Theo Elias on 25 July, 19.00 at Bolderāja! Theo will speak about his work, including the project he has been developing in Latvia since 2018 when he was the first artist to take part in the ISSP Riga residency.

Ielūdzam uz kino vakaru 23. jūlijā plkst. 19.00 ISSP telpās kontekstā ar ISSP Galerijā skatāmo izstādi “Mūsdienu fotogrāfijas vēstures II” (autori: Annemarija Gulbe un Konstantīns Žukovs)! Izstādē māksliniece Annemarija Gulbe pētījusi fotogrāfa, operatora un režisora Ulda Brauna mantojumu – fotogrāfijā, kā arī viņa vienīgajā spēlfilmā “Motociklu vasara” (1975), veidojot savu refleksiju par to un aicinot atskatīties atpakaļskata spogulī.
Valmieras vasaras teātra festivāla nedēļā laikā no 31. jūlija līdz 4. augustam Valmieras pilsētas iedzīvotājiem un viesiem būs iespēja aplūkot ISSP veidoto vides objektu “Melnais kubs - Camera Obscura”. Tiks organizētas arī pavadošās radošās meistarklases, piedāvājot apmeklētājiem mūsdienīgu un unikālu kultūrizglītojošo pieredzi.
ISSP Galerijā 4. jūlijā plkst. 18.00 Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles 2024 ietvaros tiks atklāta otrā daļa divu izstāžu ciklam “Mūsdienu fotogrāfijas vēstures”, kurā atspoguļotas vairāku mākslinieku versijas un interpretācijas par vietējās fotogrāfijas vēstures rakstīšanas procesiem. Izstādē piedalās mākslinieki Annemarija Gulbe un Konstantīns Žukovs, un tā būs skatāma no 5. jūlija līdz 15. augustam.
