A meeting with current ISSP Riga Residency artists Tekla Inari (FI) and Anastasia Starikova (LV).

::LV::

Abas grāmatas saņēmušas apbalvojumus no Finnish Book Art Committee.

Two artists with very different backgrounds are currently creating new work as a part of the ISSP Riga Residency programme. This meeting is a chance to hear about their work and the projects they are developing in Riga.

Tekla Inari graduated from the Aalto University MA Programme in Photographic Art, she is a Finnish artist who implements text and photography in her expression. In her work, she aims to harness personal stories for the exploration of larger societal themes. Her first book Legacy (Musta taide, 2015) handled the trauma of war and the burdens inherited from one generation to the next in the post-war Finland. Blue Years (Kosmos, 2017) was shot and written mostly with a smart phone, depicting the heart-wrenching love story of two young adults in a postmodern, fragmented world. Both books were recipients of the award for The Most Beautiful Books of the Year by Finnish Book Art Committee. Currently, Tekla is working on her third book with a grant from Kone Foundation. She is based in Helsinki, Finland and also works as an art mediator in the area.

Anastasia Starikova (1991) is a visual artist from Latvia, living and working in Birmingham, UK. She is interested in archiving practises and the urge to collect, digital and/or fictional narratives, texts and web interventions. Her recent works include a series of archives created for SWOP SHOP project in collaboration with Birmingham City University, Selfridges and Tate Liverpool as well as a publication titled 'The Business' that documents an online performance based around the concepts of censorship, information dissemination and dialogue. In Riga Anastasia is working on a project with her family archive.
