Artist talk :: David A. Kerr in conversation with Sophie Thun

Pirmdien, 13. septembrī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP telpās notiks saruna starp kuratoru Deividu Ešliju Kerru un mākslinieci Sofiju Tunu. Balstoties Sofijas daiļradē, sarunu biedri pievērsīsies laikmetīgajai mākslai, analogajai fotogrāfijai un mākslai kā amatam, pieskaroties arī arhīviem, izstādēm un ķermeniskām performancēm. On Monday, September 13 at 6.30 PM a conversation between curator David A. Kerr and artist Sophie Thun will take place at the ISSP. In a conversation through Sophie's oeuvre, they will discuss contemporary art, darkroom photography and art as labour, touching on themes of the archive, exhibition as a mode of production, and the body as a site for performance. Sofija Tuna (Sophie Thun) ir māksliniece, kura galvenokārt strādā ar analogās fotogrāfijas tehnikām. Viņas prakse bieži ir vietai piesaistīta un pievēršas attiecību starp mākslinieka fizisko darbu un fotogrāfiju prezentēšanu izpētei un izspēlei. Uzaugusi Varšavā, Polijā, viņa dzīvo un strādā Vīnē, Austrijā. Sofija studējusi glezniecību Krakovas Mākslas akadēmijā un absolvējusi Vīnes Mākslas akadēmiju. Pērn viņa saņēma Austrijas Federālās mākslas ministrijas Outstanding Artist Award (2021). Viņu pārstāv Sophie Tappeiner galerija Vīnē, un viņas jaunāko darbu sērija tiks prezentēta Liste Art Fair Basel 2021. gada septembrī. 2021. gada vasarā sadarbībā ar kim? Sofija uzturējās ISSP Rezidencē Rīgā. Līdz 12. septembrim Sofijas izstāde “Es neko neatceros: ienākot ZDZ izvairīgajā arhīvā”, kas tapusi, strādājot ar latviešu mākslinieces Zentas Dzividzinskas arhīvu, apskatāma Kim? Laikmetīgās mākslas centrā.

Deivids Ešlijs Kerrs (David Ashley Kerr) ir neatkarīgais kurators, rakstnieks un fotomākslinieks. Viņa nesenie pētījumi un teksti veltīti attēlu kultūrai un intimitātei postdigitālajā laikmetā. Deivids aktīvi piedalījies Melburnas mākslas scēnas attīstībā un 2013. gadā līdzdibinājis galeriju “Strange Neighbour”. Kerrs bijis fotogrāfijas pasniedzējs Fotogrāfijas studiju koledžā un Dīkina universitātē Austrālijā. Pirms pārcelšanās uz Rīgu dzīvojis un strādājis Somijā un Vācijā, šobrīd ir viesprofesors Latvijas Universitātē un pasniedzējs ISSP Skolas programmā "Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu".

Sophie Thun is an artist working primarily with techniques of analog photography, its spaces, processes and conditions of production and exhibition. Raised in Warsaw, Poland, she lives and works in Vienna, Austria. She did her Master’s degrees at the Academies of Fine Art in Vienna (2017, Martin Guttmann and Daniel Richter) and Cracow (Agata Pankiewicz and Jacek Gaj). In 2020 she finished working on the film This year’s girl with İpek Hamzaoğlu and Laura Nitsch. She is represented by Sophie Tappeiner gallery in Vienna, in which her solo exhibition will take place in December 2021. Her latest series of works will be exhibited at Liste Art Fair Basel 2021. Sophie is currently on a residency at ISSP to undertake an exhibition at Kim? working with the archive of the late Latvian photographic artist Zenta Dzivdzinka. Until September 12, Sophie’s exhibition “I Don’t Remember a Thing: Entering the Elusive Estate of ZDZ” is on view at the Kim? Contemporary Art Center.

David Ashley Kerr is an independent curator, writer and trained photomedia artist. His research largely examines the post-digital in relation to image culture, memory and human connection. David has played an active role in arts development in Melbourne, and in 2013 co-founded curator-led gallery and public darkroom, Strange Neighbour. He worked as a lecturer in photomedia at Photography Studies College and Deakin University before relocating to the EU in 2015. Having lived and worked in Finland and Germany, he is now permanently based in Riga, a visiting professor at University of Latvia, and teaches at ISSP Skola.

Tā piedāvās interaktīvas un izglītojošas aktivitātes, kas raisa interesi par laikmetīgo fotogrāfiju un mākslu, attīstīs radošumu, kritiskās analīzes spējas un izteiksmes brīvību.

Friday, May 26, at 6 PM we invite you to an artist talk by our artist-in-residence Fred Mungo, and kuš! artist-in-residence Gina Wynbrandt! They will speak about their work and present the projects they are working on during their stay in Riga.

No 12. maija līdz 13. jūlijam ISSP Galerijā ir skatāma Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles – NEXT 2023 apbalvojuma “Meklējam jauno fotogrāfijā!” laureātes, lietuviešu mākslinieces Ievas Baltadonītes izstāde “Izrautie”. Atklāšana notiks 11. maijā plkst. 18.00, bet plkst. 19.00 sekos piecu apbalvojumam pieteikto fotogrāfu darbu prezentācijas.

From May 12 to July 13, the ISSP Gallery is hosting Uprooted, an exhibition of the Riga Photography Biennial - NEXT 2023 award "Seeking the Latest in Photography!" winner, Lithuanian artist Ieva Baltaduonytė. The opening will take place on May 11 at 18:00, followed by presentations of works by the five photographers shortlisted for the award at 19:00.

Elīnas Cērpas stāstījums par Bagdādes fotosalonu kultūru

Laikmetīgā teātra režisores Elīnas Cērpas multimediju izstādes “Jūtīgā virsma” ietvaros ISSP Galerija aicina iepazīties ar irākiešu fotogrāfa Jasīna Al-Obeīdī uzņemto portretu arhīvu un noklausīties mākslinieces stāstījumu par Bagdādes fotosalonu kultūru 27. aprīlī plkst. 20.00.

Elīna Cērpa – Jūtīgā virsma // Sensitive Surface

No 25. marta līdz 4. maijam ISSP Galerijā būs skatāma laikmetīgā teātra režisores Elīnas Cērpas multimediju izstāde “Jūtīgā virsma”, kas ir veltīta fotografēšanai kā sevis izzināšanai un pieņemšanai, pētot  dziļi personiskus attēlu tapšanas iemeslus. Izstādes atklāšana notiks 24. martā plkst. 18.00.

From 25 March to 4 May the ISSP Gallery will host the multimedia exhibition Sensitive Surface by Latvian contemporary theatre director Elīna Cērpa. The exhibition is dedicated to photography as a tool for self-discovery and acceptance. The exhibition will open on 24 March at 18.00 at the ISSP Gallery.

Saruna par sociālpolitiski aktīvu mākslu Latvijā

Trešdien, 23. novembrī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP Galerijā notiks sociālpolitiski aktīvai mākslai Latvijā veltīta saruna, kurā ar savu pieredzi un radošajiem projektiem dalīsies mākslinieki Mailo Štern, Daniela Vētra, Ingrīda Pičukāne, Konstantīns Žukovs un Jānis Balodis. Ievadu sarunai sniegs kuratore Līna Birzaka-Priekule, bet vēlāk diskusiju moderēs pētniece Laine Kristberga.

Reinis Hofmanis – Telpa Nr.13 // Room No.13

No 17. novembra līdz 26. janvārim ISSP Galerijā ir skatāma fotogrāfa Reiņa Hofmaņa personālizstāde “Telpa Nr. 13”. Tajā ir aplūkojama daudzu gadu garumā radīta fotogrāfiju sērija, kurā autors pievērsies dažādu, lielākoties mums apslēptu telpu vizuālai izpētei. Laipni lūgti!

From November 17 until January 26 the solo exhibition Room No. 13 by Latvian photographer Reinis Hofmanis is on view at the ISSP Gallery. The exhibition feature a collection of photographs taken over the span of several years exploring the visuality of various, mostly hidden spaces. Welcome!

Suns Galerijā: tikšanās ar kinologu un animēto grāmatiņu darbnīca bērniem

Bjargey Ólafsdóttir – Rófurass. The Dog Within

No 16. septembra līdz 11. novembrim ISSP Galerijā būs skatāma islandiešu mākslinieces Bjargejas Olafsdotiras  (Bjargey Ólafsdóttir) personālizstāde “Rófurass. Cilvēks ar asti.”, kas veltīta cilvēka un viņa mājdzīvnieka – suņa – attiecībām. Darbs pie sērijas uzsākts 2018. gadā, māksliniecei uzturoties ISSP Rīgas rezidencē. Izstādes atklāšana notiks 15. septembrī no 18.00 - 20.00. Laipni lūgti!

From September 16 to November 11 the ISSP Gallery will host a solo exhibition by Icelandic artist Bjargey Ólafsdóttir. Rófurass. The Dog Within is dedicated to the relationship between humans and their canine pets. Work on the series began in 2018, while the artist was taking part in the ISSP Riga Residency. The opening will take place on September 15 from 6.00 - 8.00 PM. Welcome!

From April 7 to May 14, the ISSP Gallery is showing artist Kristīne Krauze-Slucka's exhibition Resolution Strike, a mixed media installation that looks at the overproduction of photography in the digital age.
