Balstoties Sofijas daiļradē, sarunu biedri pievērsīsies laikmetīgajai mākslai, analogajai fotogrāfijai un mākslai kā amatam, pieskaroties arī arhīviem, izstādēm un ķermeniskām performancēm. On Monday, September 13 at 6.30 PM a conversation between curator David A. Kerr and artist Sophie Thun will take place at the ISSP. In a conversation through Sophie's oeuvre, they will discuss contemporary art, darkroom photography and art as labour, touching on themes of the archive, exhibition as a mode of production, and the body as a site for performance. Welcome!

Sofija Tuna (Sophie Thun) ir māksliniece, kura galvenokārt strādā ar analogās fotogrāfijas tehnikām. Viņas prakse bieži ir vietai piesaistīta un pievēršas attiecību starp mākslinieka fizisko darbu un fotogrāfiju prezentēšanu izpētei un izspēlei. Uzaugusi Varšavā, Polijā, viņa dzīvo un strādā Vīnē, Austrijā. Sofija studējusi glezniecību Krakovas Mākslas akadēmijā un absolvējusi Vīnes Mākslas akadēmiju. Pērn viņa saņēma Austrijas Federālās mākslas ministrijas Outstanding Artist Award (2021). Viņu pārstāv Sophie Tappeiner galerija Vīnē, un viņas jaunāko darbu sērija tiks prezentēta Liste Art Fair Basel 2021. gada septembrī. 2021. gada vasarā sadarbībā ar kim? Sofija uzturējās ISSP Rezidencē Rīgā. Līdz 12. septembrim Sofijas izstāde “Es neko neatceros: ienākot ZDZ izvairīgajā arhīvā”, kas tapusi, strādājot ar latviešu mākslinieces Zentas Dzividzinskas arhīvu, apskatāma Kim? Laikmetīgās mākslas centrā.
Deivids Ešlijs Kerrs (David Ashley Kerr) ir neatkarīgais kurators, rakstnieks un fotomākslinieks. Viņa nesenie pētījumi un teksti veltīti attēlu kultūrai un intimitātei postdigitālajā laikmetā. Deivids aktīvi piedalījies Melburnas mākslas scēnas attīstībā un 2013. gadā līdzdibinājis galeriju “Strange Neighbour”. Kerrs bijis fotogrāfijas pasniedzējs Fotogrāfijas studiju koledžā un Dīkina universitātē Austrālijā. Pirms pārcelšanās uz Rīgu dzīvojis un strādājis Somijā un Vācijā, šobrīd ir viesprofesors Latvijas Universitātē un pasniedzējs ISSP Skolas programmā "Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu".

Sophie Thun is an artist working primarily with techniques of analog photography, its spaces, processes and conditions of production and exhibition. Raised in Warsaw, Poland, she lives and works in Vienna, Austria. She did her Master’s degrees at the Academies of Fine Art in Vienna (2017, Martin Guttmann and Daniel Richter) and Cracow (Agata Pankiewicz and Jacek Gaj). In 2020 she finished working on the film This year’s girl with İpek Hamzaoğlu and Laura Nitsch. She is represented by Sophie Tappeiner gallery in Vienna, in which her solo exhibition will take place in December 2021. Her latest series of works will be exhibited at Liste Art Fair Basel 2021. Sophie is currently on a residency at ISSP to undertake an exhibition at Kim? working with the archive of the late Latvian photographic artist Zenta Dzivdzinka. Until September 12, Sophie’s exhibition “I Don’t Remember a Thing: Entering the Elusive Estate of ZDZ” is on view at the Kim? Contemporary Art Center.
David Ashley Kerr is an independent curator, writer and trained photomedia artist. His research largely examines the post-digital in relation to image culture, memory and human connection. David has played an active role in arts development in Melbourne, and in 2013 co-founded curator-led gallery and public darkroom, Strange Neighbour. He worked as a lecturer in photomedia at Photography Studies College and Deakin University before relocating to the EU in 2015. Having lived and worked in Finland and Germany, he is now permanently based in Riga, a visiting professor at University of Latvia, and teaches at ISSP Skola.
