Artist talk & Creative workshop :: Pixin Weng

:: LV ::

During the evening Pixin Weng will be sharing the current comic she is working on, that is inspired by figures in her matrilineal line. This comic project was kickstarted by Pixin’s attempt to express tensions with her mother, who had been a difficult and very elusive character in her life.
In the practical workshop, Pixin will invite the participants to engage in a crafty activity that involves thinking of our past and wonder about the individuals who made us, of whom we still embody pieces inside our bodies and minds.

NB! Participants are highly encouraged to bring along a photograph of their grandparent or another important relative! No harm will be done to the photo. If photographs are not available, do not worry about it – you’ll use your memory and imagination!

Pixin Weng (or Pix for short) was born in 1983 and grew up in sunny Singapore, listening to stories by her father, who was curious about nature, humans and the relationship between the two. In her art, Pixin loves to create semi-autobiographical comics and stories that reflect and express her curious nature too. Her debut graphic novel, Sweet Time, published by Drawn and Quarterly will be out in June 2020. Pixin not only draws but also sews, makes comics/tells stories, paints, creates and constructs various objects often involving others in the creative process.
