::LV::

2014.gadā izdevusi grāmatu “Hard work” (Smags darbs) par Kung fu apmācību kultūru Ķīnā. Strādājusi British Journal of Photography un ir redaktore fotogrāfijas blogam “of the land & us”.

Ieeja bez maksas, pasākums notiks angļu valodā.

On Wednesday, October 24 at 6.00 PM ISSP is happy to host an artist talk with three artists with very different backgrounds - Bjargey Ólafsdóttir, Henna Tyrväinen, Ameena Rojee - who are currently creating new work as a part of the ISSP Riga Residency programme. This meeting is a chance to hear about their work and the projects they are developing in Riga.

Bjargey Ólafsdóttir (1972) lives and works in Reykjavik, Iceland. She has studied photography, painting and mixed media at Iceland Academy of the Arts, Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki and has studied Screenwriting and Directing in Binger Filmlab, Amsterdam. The art of Ólafsdóttir is not confined to a single medium as each of her concepts call for a different tool: photography, film, sound art, performance and drawing. Her works play with our preconceptions about what we see, about the mediums of film and photography, questioning what is real and what is fiction. The artist's works have been exhibited in Iceland, Germany, Chile, Sweden, USA, Austria, UK and France.

Henna Tyrväinen (1987) is a visual artist from Pori, Finland. She mostly works with graphic arts, experimental photography and installation art, often combining them. She is an active member in artist-run art associations NYTE and T.E.H.D.A.S. based in Pori. These associations organize and produce different underground cultural events (music, performance art, lectures etc.), run Gallery 3H+K, make their own group exhibitions and other events. Tyrväinen's minimalistic works are often reflecting a mood of fragile melancholy and a sense of longing.

Ameena Rojee (1991) is an emerging London-based freelance photographer who has participated in various group and solo exhibitions. She is greatly intrigued by people, cultures and the land; interests stemming from her mixed heritage (half-Spanish, half-Mauritian, she was born in and grew up in south London). Her recent work focuses on gender issues as well as the relationship between people and nature in the modern world. Her book 'Hard Work' was published in 2015, exploring the topic of Kung Fu in China. She recently worked for British Journal of Photography and edits the online photography platform 'of the land & us'.

Free entrance, the event will take place in English.
