Diskusija - What Do Artists Want. ART and LAW

::LV::

Ieeja bez maksas. Vietu skaits ir ierobežots, tāpēc aicinām ierasties laicīgi.

In 1971, curator, publisher, bibliographer and collector Seth Siegelaub with the help of lawyer Robert Projansky wrote The Artist’s Reserved Rights Transfer and Sale Agreement, which was crafted with the aim of representing artists’ economical rights, especially in cases of resale, reproduction and loaning of the work of art – intended to serve as an agreement available to all artists and written in a easy to understand language. It was distributed through mass media and translated into many languages. The agreement remains in use, yet in spite of this fact many important questions regarding copyright, resale rights, insurance and other legal issues important in artists’ daily work remain open in the context of the Latvian art scene – who should cover insurance costs? How to determine the value of the work? What to do in a situation when the work is damaged yet there is no insurance or agreement? Is an agreement through e-mail legally binding etc.?

On February 5 at 18.00 VV Foundation invites you to take part in the third discussion in the cycle "What do artists want?" about and around questions regarding artists’ rights, taking place at the ISSP Gallery.

Before the discussion, attorney at BDO Law and expert on arts law Rolands Žīgurs will give an overview of questions related to copyright.

The discussion will be held in Latvian.
