Looking for a writer-editor to join ISSP 2019 team

International Summer School of Photography 2019 is looking for a writer-editor to join our editorial super-team responsible for producing a special publication within the ISSP 2019 edition "Photography and the World" in Zaļenieki Castle, 12-20 July 2019. 

Requirements:
- experienced & at ease with writing, ideally with a journalistic background;
- impeccable written English (native speaker or equal);
- excellent communication skills;
- excited about the subject;
- for reasons of team gender balance we are looking for a woman (sorry guys!). 

The preparatory work will start already in March and shall be completed with the release of the Publication on the last day of the ISSP. 

We offer:
- an opportunity to create exciting content in an excellent team (other editorial team members: Nico Baumgarten, Nicolas Polli); 
- up to EUR 200 travel expenses and full board at the ISSP campus;
- a honorarium of EUR 500.

ISSP Gallery at the art fair Photo Basel in Berlin

From September 11 to 13, the ISSP Gallery participates in the Photo Basel art fair, taking place at the acclaimed Tempelhof Flughafen in Berlin. This time, the ISSP Gallery offers visitors an opportunity to get to know works by Latvian photographer Iveta Gabaliņa.

No 11. līdz 13. septembrim ISSP Galerija piedalās “Photo Basel” mākslas mesē, kas norisinās leģendārajā Tempelhofas lidostā Berlīnē. Šoreiz ISSP Galerija apmeklētājus iepazīstina ar latviešu fotogrāfes Ivetas Gabaliņas darbiem.

Julia Volonts :: When Words Are Not Enough: Art as a Therapeutic Tool for Community Engagement

Trešdien, 16. septembrī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP telpās notiks pasākums “Kad ar vārdiem nepietiek: māksla kā terapeitisks rīks kopienas iesaistei” – tikšanās ar mākslas terapeiti Džūliju Volonts (Julia Volonts, ASV).

On Wednesday, September 16, at 6.30 PM an event “When Words Are Not Enough: Art as a Therapeutic Tool for Community Engagement” – a meeting with art therapist Julia Volonts (USA) will take place at the ISSP.
 

Andrejs Strokins – Kosmiskās skumjas / Cosmic Sadness

No 10. septembra līdz 28. oktobrim ISSP Galerijā norisināsies viens no Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles 2020 programmas kulminācijas notikumiem – latviešu mākslinieka Andreja Strokina personālizstāde “Kosmiskās skumjas”.
Atklāšana – 9. septembrī plkst. 18.00.

From September 10 to October 28 the ISSP Gallery is hosting the solo exhibition “Cosmic Sadness” by Latvian artist Andrejs Strokins, one of the main events of the Riga Photography Biennial 2020. Opening – September 9, 6 PM.

Nakts rasols ar māksliniekiem

Sestdien, 5. septembrī, Baltās Nakts ietvaros, aicinām uz īpašo tikšanos ar izstādes “Labāk redzu cilvēkus aizejam” autoriem, ISSP Skolas 2020 gada absolventiem, pie rasola galda! Muzicēs Ernests Indāns un Armands Viļums, no 18:00 līdz 02:00 jeb pēdējam viesim, Elizabetes ielā 87.

Izstāde būs apskatāma tikai līdz svētdienai, 6.septembrim! 

ISSP Skolas absolventu izstāde "Labāk redzu cilvēkus aizejam"

No 20. augusta līdz 6. septembrim Elizabetes ielā 87, bijušajā veikala Bergs telpās, būs skatāma izstāde “Labāk redzu cilvēkus aizejam”, kurā savus fotogrāfijas projektus prezentē ISSP Skolas divu gadu mācību programmas 2020. gada absolventi. Tapusi pandēmijas laikā, par vienu no centrālajiem jautājumiem tā izvirza attiecības — ar sevi un apkārtējiem.

Aizliegtā māksla :: Diskusija par cenzūru Latvijas mākslā

18. augustā plkst. 18.00 ISSP Galerijā norisināsies diskusija “Aizliegtā māksla”, kurā kultūras un citu nozaru eksperti pievērsīsies ne tikai nesenajam cenzūras gadījumam mākslinieces Annemarijas Gulbes personālizstādē “Love Re-search”, bet arī plašāk runās par cenzūru mākslā, institūciju atbildību un sabiedrības aizspriedumiem.

Artist talks & book presentation :: Bernotaitė, Odnoviun, Raggio

Ceturtdien, 13. augustā, plkst. 18.30 ISSP Galerijā Berga bazārā notiks tikšanās ar ISSP Rīgas Rezidences māksliniekiem — Viktoriju Bernotaiti (Lietuva/Lielbritānija), Valentīnu Odnovjunu (Ukraina/Lietuva) un Martinu T. Radžio (ASV/Vācija). Tikšanās ir iespēja uzzināt par viņu līdzšinējo darbību, kā arī par projektiem Rīgā. Pasākuma laikā notiks arī grāmatu prezentācijas.

On Thursday, August 13, at 18.30 a meeting with ISSP Riga Residency artists Viktorija Bernotaitė (Lithuania/UK), Valentyn Odnoviun (Ukraine/Lithuania) and Martin T Raggio (USA/Germany) will take place at the ISSP Gallery, Riga. The attendees will have a chance to hear about their previous work, as well as projects they are developing in Riga. Two books will be presented during the event.

“Seeking the Latest in Photography!” 2021 Award

Until 20 September 2020 young artists from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are invited to submit their work for the Riga Photography Biennial – NEXT 2021 Award “Seeking the Latest in Photography!”. The award winner will be offered a solo exhibition at the ISSP Gallery in Riga in April 2021. The gallery will also host the RPB award ceremony.

Līdz 20. septembrim jaunie mākslinieki no Latvijas, Lietuvas un Igaunijas aicināti pieteikt savus darbus Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāles – NEXT 2021 balvai ”Meklējam jauno fotogrāfijā!”. Balvas ieguvēja izstāde un uzvarētāju apbalvošana notiks 2021. gada aprīlī ISSP Galerijā.

Annemarija Gulbe – Love Re-search

No 17. jūlija līdz 29. augustam ISSP Galerijā sadarbībā ar mākslas fondu VV Foundation skatāma latviešu mākslinieces Annemarijas Gulbes personālizstāde “Love Re-search”. Tajā būs aplūkojama četru gadu garumā tapusi fotogrāfiju sērija, kurā iemūžināti privāti mirkļi no autores vienaudžu dzīves.

From July 17 to August 29 in collaboration with the VV Foundation the ISSP Gallery is hosting the solo exhibition “Love Re-search” by Latvian artist Annemarija Gulbe. It features a series of photographs created over four years, capturing private moments from the author's peers.

Applications for Natural Phenomena extended

Attention! The applications for the United ISSP and Baltic Analog Lab Summer School NATURAL PHENOMENA are still open! We have a few spots left so the application deadline is extended till 20 July. The new applications will be accepted on first come first served basis.

From 2 - 9 August in Rucka Artist Residency in Cēsis, the summer school will explore the fascinating natural world and its creatures around us, offering creative inspiration and new skills through four different mini workshops (both photography and analogue film) and guest lectures and discussions with invited biologists, entomologists, environmental scientists, writers and more! The participants will be invited to create their own work inspired by the subject. Only 30 participants will be selected based on the submitted applications - don't miss this opportunity!

We are delighted to announce that the International Summer School of Photography (and Analogue Film!) will happen this year! The united ISSP and Baltic Analog Lab Summer School will take place from 2 to 9 August in Cēsis, at the Rucka Art Residency Centre. Parallel Masterclass with Void :: Final showcase

No 6. līdz. 14. jūnijam Void dibinātāju vadībā norisinājās online grāmatu meistarklase, kuras laikā Latvijas fotogrāfi un mākslinieki strādāja pie savu izdevumu veidošanas. Darba rezultāti – sešas grāmatas un viena spēle – tiks prezentēti pasākumā, kas 30. jūnijā plkst. 18.30 notiks tiešsaistē un ISSP telpās - laipni lūgti!

From 6 to 14 June, Void founders Myrto Steirou, João Linneu and Sylvia Sachini worked with selected Latvian photographers to conceptualise, edit and produce unique publications with their artistic work. On 30 June at 18.30, the presentation of six books and one game will take place online and at the ISSP.
