This year, the International Summer School of Photography once more offers a series of fascinating talks and presentations by the ISSP masters, guests and participants at the campus in Pelči, and the final exhibition and outdoor screening in Kuldīga. The events are free of charge - all photography and visual art lovers are welcome!

20.00 – 20.15 The ISSP story: an express summary by Julija Berkovica 
20.15 – 21.45 Artist talk by Jason Fulford (US) - “The Modern Prometheus”

Jason Fulford is a photographer and co-founder of J&L Books. As an editor and an author, a focus of his work has been on the subject of how meaning is generated through association. Fulford will discuss his recent work, especially that made with "spare parts".

20.00 - 21.00 Artist talk by Lisa Barnard (UK) - "The Canary and the Hammer"

Lisa Barnard is a photographic artist interested in aesthetics, politics and the military. Her most recent project “The Canary and the Hammer” was inspired by the financial crisis of 2008 and reflects our relationship to Gold. It will be published by MACK in April 2019. 

21.00 - 21.45 Artist talk by Salvatore Vitale (IT/CH) - "The Seen and the Unseen"

Salvatore Vitale is a Swiss-based photographer and editor born and raised in Palermo, Italy. He is also the co-founder and editor-in-chief of YET magazine.

21.45 - 22.30 Artist talk by Sarker Protick (BD) - "Time will Tell" 

Bangladesh-based photographer Sarker Protick makes work that explores the possibilities of time, light and sound. His portraits, landscapes and photographic series engage philosophically with the specificities of personal and national histories.

20:00 - 21:00 Natasha Christia (ES) "The Family of No Man and Me: On Power, Gender and Curating" 

Curator, writer and educator Natasha Christia will speak about the Arles curatorial project The Family of No Man she co-curated this year with Brad Feuerhelm, addressing issues of gender and roles in our small photography world. 

21:15 - 22:30 John Fleetwood (ZA) "On Photo: and positions on African Photography"

John Fleetwood is a curator, editor and the director of Photo:, a photography platform for curatorial and educational projects that relate to the African continent. Fleetwood was the Head of the Market Photo Workshop from 2002-2015. He will give an insight into his own work and that of selected African photographers.

20:00 - 21:00 Artist talk by Yumi Goto (JP) and Jan Rosseel (BE): "Photobook as an object / Photobook who cares" 

A perfect idea does not appear in photographer's minds easily. Various challenges can help resolve and refine what they set out to do. Going through the process of trial and error may seem painful at the time, but the satisfaction when accomplishing a great result is worth it. Curator and editor Yumi Goto and photographer and bookmaker Jan Rosseel will talk about why and how they make handmade books and the importance of visual storytelling.

Artist talk :: Thibaut Henz & David Ashley Kerr

Trešdien, 10. oktobrī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP telpās notiks tikšanās ar ISSP Rīgas rezidences mākslinieku Tibo Hencu un kuratoru Deividu Ešliju Kerru. Interesentiem būs iespēja uzzināt par viņu radošo sadarbību, Tibo līdzšinējo darbību, kā arī Rīgā topošajiem projektiem.

On Wednesday, October 28 at 6.30 PM a meeting with ISSP Riga Residency artist Thibaut Henz and his friend, colleague and curator David Ashley Kerr will take place at the ISSP. The attendees will have a chance to hear about Thibaut’s previous work, as well as projects he is now working on in Riga.

Bērnu diena ISSP Galerijā

Sestdien, 10. oktobrī, plkst. 12.00 aicinām uz Bērnu dienu ISSP Galerijā – tikšanos ar mākslinieku Andreju Strokinu viņa personālizstādē “Kosmiskās skumjas” un foto pastaigu kopā ar darbnīcas vadītāju Adelīnu Kalniņu. Aktivitātēs aicināti piedalīties bērni un ģimenes ar bērniem vecumā no 7 līdz 12 gadiem, kuriem ir pieejams viedtālrunis ar kameru.

Tim Sullivan :: What to do with the Romantics?

Trešdien, 30. septembrī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP telpās notiks pasākums “Ko iesākt ar romantiķiem?” – ISSP Rīgas rezidences mākslinieka un fotogrāfijas pasniedzēja Tima Salivana lekcija un pārdomas par fotogrāfijas lasīšanu un romantisma mantojuma noderīgumu mūsdienu attēlu veidotājiem.

On Wednesday, September 30, at 6.30 PM an event “What to do with the Romantics?” – a talk about the usefulness of Romanticism for the present-day image-makers and a meeting with ISSP Riga Residency artist and lecturer Tim Sullivan (UK) – will take place at the ISSP.

Julia Volonts :: When Words Are Not Enough: Art as a Therapeutic Tool for Community Engagement

Trešdien, 16. septembrī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP telpās notiks pasākums “Kad ar vārdiem nepietiek: māksla kā terapeitisks rīks kopienas iesaistei” – tikšanās ar mākslas terapeiti Džūliju Volonts (Julia Volonts, ASV).

On Wednesday, September 16, at 6.30 PM an event “When Words Are Not Enough: Art as a Therapeutic Tool for Community Engagement” – a meeting with art therapist Julia Volonts (USA) will take place at the ISSP.
 

1:1 - Satiec mākslinieku

Pārtraucot ieilgušo klusumu, 2. jūnijā atveram ISSP Galeriju ar performatīvu izstādi 1:1, kas aicina apmeklētājus viens pret viens satikties ar četriem māksliniekiem, kuri ar savu klātbūtni dažādos veidos iesaistīs auditoriju.

Breaking a long silence, on June 2, the ISSP Gallery will open with the performative exhibition 1:1. Visitors are invited to meet one-on-one with four different artists, who will in different ways interact with the audience.

Ronit Porat :: Appropriation of narratives

27. maijā, plkst. 18.30 tiešsaistē notiks tikšanās ar ISSP Rīgas rezidences mākslinieci Ronitu Poratu (Izraēla), kura strādā ar dažādiem fotoarhīviem, sasaistot tos ar vēsturiskiem naratīviem un ar pašas biogrāfiju.

On May 27 at 6.30 PM ISSP is inviting to join an artist talk by ISSP Riga Residency artist Ronit Porat (Israel), who has been working with various photographic archives, linking those to historical narratives and her personal biography.

15. aprīlī plkst. 18.30 piedāvājam ikvienam interesentam tiešsaistē apmeklēt ISSP Skolas vieslekciju – tikšanos ar fotogrāfu un grāmatu veidotāju Georgu Avetisjanu, kurš stāstīs par saviem ilgtermiņa projektiem dzimtes sakņu izpētes tēmā.

Šo trešdien, 1. aprīlī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP Skola ikvienu interesentu aicina pievienoties tiešsaistes lekcijai, ko vadīs jaunā mākslas vēsturniece Anete Skuja. Viņa pastāstīs par arhīva lomu fotogrāfijā un laikmetīgajā mākslā, īpaši fokusējoties uz Baltijas valstu mākslinieku praksēm.

Trešdien, 25. martā, plkst. 18.30 tiešsaistē notiks tikšanās ar šībrīža ISSP Rīgas rezidences māksliniekiem – fotogrāfiem Alanu Haku (Alan Huck, ASV) un Titusu Šabelski (Tytus Szabelski, Polija). Interesentiem būs iespēja uzzināt par viņu līdzšinējo radošo darbību, kā arī par Rīgā uzsāktajiem projektiem.

On Wednesday, March 25 at 6.30 PM an online meeting with ISSP Riga Residency artists Alan Huck (USA) and Tytus Szabelski (Poland). The attendees will have a chance to hear about their previous work, as well as projects they were about to develop in Riga.

Ceturtdien, 13. februārī, plkst. 18.30 ISSP telpās notiks tikšanās ar apvienotās ISSP un komiksu platformas "kuš!" Rīgas rezidences mākslinieci Piksinu Vengu (Pixin Weng) no Singapūras, kuras laikā būs iespēja uzzināt par viņas līdzšinējo darbību, projektiem Rīgā, kā arī piedalīties nelielā radošā darbnīcā Piksinas vadībā.

On February 13 at 6.30 PM we are hosting a meeting with the United ISSP & kuš! Riga Residency artist Pixin Weng - an opportunity to hear about her previous work, the projects she is currently working on in Riga, as well as to participate in a small creative workshop.

On January 22 at 6.30 PM a meeting with ISSP Riga Residency artists Stewart Hardie (the UK) and Hiro Tanaka (Japan) will take place at the ISSP Gallery, Riga. The attendees will have a chance to hear about their previous work, as well as projects they are developing in Riga.

Wow, kāds lielisks skats

No 16. janvāra līdz 4. aprīlim ISSP Galerijā apskatāma izstāde “Wow, kāds lielisks skats”. Tās laikā ISSP Galerija pārtapusi improvizētā rezidences dzīvoklī, kurā eksponēti sešu mākslinieku darbi, tapuši, uzturoties ISSP Rīgas rezidencē.

The exhibition “Wow, what a great view”, open from January 16 to April 4 at the ISSP Gallery, is set up as the residency apartment turned upside down and features works of six artists, created during their time at the ISSP Riga Residency.
