Divu ISSP Rīgas Rezidences mākslinieku autorvakars.
A meeting with current ISSP Riga Residency artists Demelza Watts (UK) and Franek Ammer (PL).

::LV::

Two artists with very different backgrounds are currently creating new work as part of the ISSP Riga Residency programme. This meeting will be a chance to hear about their previous work, as well as projects they are developing in Riga.

Demelza Watts (b. 1990) lives and works in London. The everyday and the familiar are essential in Watts’ practice. Her concern is how the home affects creative thought - what is the impact of the home on socialising, on imagination, on play, in making communities, on our compassion and on our political agency? What is the relationship between homes and introversion/extroversion? Can it be weaponised as a political tool? Watts’ focus lays in the common ground for the artist and the spectator, how collage can adjust the boundary between documentation and activity, editing to bring together images that blur reality and fiction, physical and virtual, possible and impossible.
Her recent and upcoming projects include; fingers crossed (solo) at 17five.net, London, UK (2018), Artist in Residence at Nida Art Colony, Lithuania (2018), Collectives not Collections: A Symposium, Raven Row, London (2018), and Artist in Residence at MAWA, Winnipeg, Canada (2019). Watts is co-founder of the public art research project pea proposals (2015-present) and project coordinator of PACTO, a global art collective (2017-present). https://demelzawatts.com

Franek Ammer (b. 1988 in Lodz, Poland). Artist, curator and organiser, studied photography at the Lodz Film School. He is a curator for Fotofestiwal in Lodz, responsible for the festival program, coordination of exhibitions, events and publications. He is also a co-founded of TIFF International Photography Festival in Wroclaw and a co-founder of Przestrzeń Robocza (Working Space) in Lodz - a place dedicated to experimental work in visual and multimedia arts. As an artist he creates photo-objects or objects-photographs that address issues of representation, myths and imagination. His works were presented at individual exhibitions in Miejsce przy Miejscu gallery in Wroclaw (The Valley, 2015) and Mała Czarna gallery at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz (In the Beginning Was the Head, 2017) among others as well on several group exhibitions such as UFO: Visual Lab (Krakow Photomonth, 2017). His presentation will be devoted to engaging in different activities in the cultural field and switching the roles between artist, curator and organiser as different sides of the need to experiment, learn and share the ideas.

Free entrance, the event will take place in English.
