Various myths and secrets surround Velnezers (Devil's Lake) - a round and deep lake with intensely green water, located in the middle of a forest in the Aglona district in Eastern Latvia. Vika Eksta does not seek to discover the truth, but rather to capture the nature of Velnezers and its peculiar magnetizing force.

Velnezers jeb Čertoks - apaļš un dziļš ezers ar ūdeni intensīvi zaļā krāsā - atrodas meža vidū Aglonas novadā. Lai gan ezeru apvij dažādi mīti un noslēpumi, Latviešu folkloras krātuvē par to nav atrodama neviena liecība. Iespējams, ka uz šo reģionu braukušas ļoti maz folkloristu ekspedīcijas, bet varbūt izteiktā interese par Velnezeru parādījusies tikai nesen. Māksliniece Vika Eksta necenšas atklāt patiesību, bet gan notvert Velnezera raksturu un īpatnējo pievilkšanas spēku. Ezers Ekstai pazīstams jau kopš bērnības, kad viņa dzīvoja turpat tuvumā. ISSP Galerijas izstādē šie darbi Latvijā būs redzami pirmo reizi.

Vika Eksta (1987) ir vizuālā māksliniece un pedagoģe, kuru interesē portreti un pašportreti, performance, video un arhīvu izpēte. Kopš 2014. gada piedalās izstādēs Latvijā un starptautiski. Apguvusi fotogrāfiju pie Andreja Granta un EFTI fotoskolā Madridē. Ekstai ir bakalaura grāds filmu teorijā un maģistra grāds Vizuālajā komunikācijā. 2016. gadā viņa saņēma ADC Young Guns balvu un Rīgas Fotogrāfijas Biennāles balvu jaunajiem Baltijas fotogrāfiem.

Velnezers (Devil's Lake) or Čertoks - a round and deep lake with intensely green water - is located in the middle of a forest in the Aglona district in Eastern Latvia. Although various myths and secrets surround the lake, there are no records of it in the Archives of Latvian Folklore. Possible, very few ethnographic expeditions have traveled to this region, but perhaps interest in Velnezers has grown only recently. Vika Eksta does not seek to discover the truth, but rather to capture the nature of Velnezers and its peculiar magnetizing force. The lake is familiar to Vika since her childhood, when she was living nearby. This exhibition will be the first time this work is shown in Latvia.

Vika Eksta (1987) is a visual artist and pedagogue who is interested in portraiture and self-portraiture, performance, video and archive research. She has participated in exhibitions in Latvia and internationally since 2014. Studied photography at at Andrejs Grants's studio and EFTI in Madrid. She holds a BA in film theory and a MA in Visual Communication. In 2016 she received the ADC Young Guns Award and the Riga Photography Biennial Award for young Baltic photographers.
